Notes
[edit]- This issue was published as the April 2024 issue of the web comic as well as the second installment of the Trainbot-centric Shushupopo!! event commemorating the completion of the team as the first project in the MPG toyline.
- It advertised MPG Raiden (i.e. the collective MPG releases of Shouki, Getsuei, Yukikaze, Suiken, Seizan, and Kaen) and Premium Finish War for Cybertron Trilogy Megatron, as well as the first collected edition of Go! Go!.
Transformers references
[edit]- This issue is all about Raiden. Like his components, he debuts drawn with exacting fealty to his MPG toy being advertised. This results in an absolutely hench version of the big guy, in contrast to his usual relatively lithe proportions for a combiner.
- While toy-accuracy is the norm for Go! Go!, Oda really goes all-in this time, with much of Raiden's page time being devoted to cycling through his armory of weapons seeded through the first six or so releases of the MPG toyline:
- Raiden's opening attack against Megatron's giant castle mech utilizes his hip-mounted Raiden Cannons, a feature devised for MPG to remix his original toy's kibble from a bug to a feature.
- Raiden attempts to deflect the mech's counterattack with the "Light Sword" (ライトソード Raito Sōdo) packed with Kaen's MPG toy, itself a reference to Raiden's duel with Bruticus in the Headmasters episode "Head On!! Fortress Maximus." Notably it behaves like a physical blade here as opposed to the thinly veiled lightsaber of its original appearance.
- The larger blade Raiden uses to dismember the castle with panache is "Kōken" (光剣, "Light Sword")[1] another sword pulled by MPG from "Explosion on Mars!! MegaZarak Appears" (wielded briefly by Raiden in the course of getting his caboose handed to him by Scorponok's new toy) which Oda re-imagines here as something of a signature weapon. It too sports an opaque physical blade, recalling the chromed version of Kōken packed with the MPG box set as opposed to the cartoon-style translucent blade packed with Seizan's MPG toy.
- Finally, Raiden blows the mech suit to smithereens and sends Megatron blasting off again with the Train Bazooka, the sole weapon included with his original Generation 1 toy.
