Surge is a young idealist, full of ideas and confidence. He is always ready to listen to advice and war stories from his combiner partner Retro.

Released in the seventh and final year of the original The Transformers toyline in the US (sixth and not-final in Europe), Surge is a redeco of Micromaster Combiner Excavator, transforming into a crane trailer which is intended to be the rear half of a red crane truck. He is intended to combine with his partner Retro to form a complete crane truck. As a Micromaster Combiner, he can as well connect to any other Micromaster Combiner or Combiner Transport to make a new vehicle.

He was only available in a set with Retro and the Missile Launcher Transport.
