C-X is a drone from the Japanese portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
The first in a long chain of oversized knockoffs.

C-X is an AI-installed fighting drone; a joint effort between the Autobots and the United States Military. C-X's physique is similar to Optimus Prime's, however, the height of the C-X is about 1.5 times that of Optimus Prime. There are five C-Xes in total, including a prototype and four others. Each of the four is equipped with different weapons.

The Battle of the Star Gate

[edit]

In the 1990s, the C-X was engineered by the human populace, in conjunction with Optimus Prime, to create an Earthly protector to help the Autobots against the Decepticons. Optimus Prime agreed to fight against the C-X in mock war games in order to test its capabilities. The first test was a purely physical battle. Although the C-X's strength was impressive, its defensive abilities were incomplete. After guarding against several blows to gauge the C-X's measure, Optimus Prime was able to catch the mechanoid's fist and ground it with a judo flip. The C-X failed the next test as well: a targeting demonstration. It appeared the robot lacked the ability to compensate for close-range targets. Wheeljack and Bluestreak each lent their expert opinions to the design crew after each test for possible upgrades.

The friendly testing suddenly ended when the C-X ran amok, switching to live fire and striking at Prime fiercely. The Autobots and the nearby human weapons protesters were put in danger by the C-X's berserk actions. Despite his injuries, Optimus managed to intercept the C-X's attempt to laser-blast the humans by swinging his trailer into the line of fire. The Autobot leader then sprang over his trailer and decapitated the droid with his energo-axe. Divided Views

The C-X program continued despite this setback, and four C-X drones accompanied the Autobots when the Decepticons made a second attack on the Trigger. They soon proved to be a liability, however, when Starscream's ghost remotely assumed command of their programming. The time-traveling spectre revealed he was responsible for the earlier C-X prototype going haywire. The C-Xs were ultimately demolished in the space battle between Starscream, the Autobots and the Decepticons. The Battle of the Star Gate

Kre-O comic

[edit]

The Decepticons turned Optimus Prime's body into the Alligaticon, and installed a new head on the Kreon body and formed C-X. When Optimus Prime used his telekinetic control over his own bricks, C-X was torn apart and reduced to his component blocks. Negligence Is the Greatest Enemy! Optimus Became a Monster!?

Notes

[edit]
  • In case it isn't clear, C-X's name is based on Optimus Prime's Japanese name, Convoy.
  • Kre-O also obviously shares all his parts with Optimus Prime, with the differences being in the details. C-X has a straight visor instead of individual eyes, bricks under his feet to increase his height and markings on his right shoulder. Optimus Prime's actual right arm, after all, was being used to shoot people from a building.
  • As C-X is never depicted in color in The Battle of the Star Gate, the Kre-O version was given a made up color scheme based directly on Optimus Prime. Naoto Tsushima, the artist behind Star Gate, would later give the drone a purple torso and legs in an unofficial piece.[1]
