Rubble is an Autobot or unaligned Transformer from the 2019 IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Logically, we should assume that Frezzy is red.

Rubble is a newly-born Cybertronian, mentored by Bumblebee and also acquainted with Windblade. Though enthusiastic to experience his planet, he is ill-equipped to encounter a historic era of sociopolitical upheaval.

Trouble for Rubble.

With Cybertron's ability to forge new Transformers limited by the terms of the Nominus Edict, Rubble was one of a few rare new forgings allowed to take place every few kilocycles, his spark harvested from the Well of All Sparks and forged into a new robot. The World In Your Eyes Part Three As was tradition, Rubble's emergence into the world was marked by a celebration held at the great Pyramid in Iacon. There, Rubble was welcomed into the world by Senator Orion Pax—filling in for the absent First Senator Sentinel Prime—and assigned Bumblebee as his official mentor. Rubble only retained vague snippets of his "birth," however, something he later attributed to having too much sensory input too soon. The World In Your Eyes Part Four

Like all new Transformers, Rubble was born without an alternate mode, The World In Your Eyes Part One and part of Bumblebee's duties as a mentor was to introduce Rubble to every facet of Cybertronian life until the young 'bot found a job, and shape, that suited him. Rubble's education included working with xeno-specialists to learn more about Cybertron's community of alien immigrants, The World In Your Eyes Part Five and it was on his forty-first cycle of existence that Bumblebee first took him beyond the city and into the wilderness beyond, to a remote energon processing facility overseen by Brainstorm to learn more about energon engineering. Their trip was heavily delayed by the wide-opticed Rubble taking in all the sights of the Cybertronian Mountains where he met a Voin scavenger, his meeting with the alien coinciding with the arrival of Windblade, whom Rubble was very eager to meet. As night fell, the trio arrived at the processing plant only to witness signs of a break-in. Though Rubble was ordered to stay put, he wandered off when he heard a sparking wire, which led him to Brainstorm's corpse. The World In Your Eyes Part One

Rubble on the double!

Security Operations soon arrived to scope out the scene; with Chromia imploring Rubble to not consider the murder to be indicative of their society, and in order to keep Rubble's spirits up Bumblebee agreed to move their tour along to their next leg of their journey, and so returned to the city aboard a carrier in order to meet with Wheeljack at the Tether. When they arrived, the overenthusiastic engineer explained the glory of the Winged Moon and offered Rubble the opportunity to work with him for a time so as to better understand the nature of engineering, which Rubble eagerly accepted.

At the conclusion of his first shift, Bumblebee picked up Rubble, and the pair went to watch the Winged Moon harvest its nightly bounty of energon. On the rooftop, the pair shared a conversation about factionalism and energon crystals before the moon unfurled, and Rubble declared was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen. The World In Your Eyes Part Two

Often stuck looking on from the back, he invented the Rubble's space telescope.

As the moon worked, Bumblebee took Rubble to a nearby testing track to teach him about alternate modes, pointing out the distant form of Leviathan as an example before Windblade arrived, telling Bumblebee that he was to report to the Senate building. As Windblade took Rubble home, the young 'bot confessed his worries that he was disappointing Bumblebee only for the flier to clarify that, due to the Nominus Edict restricting forgings, being a mentor was a great responsibility and if anything, it was Bumblebee who worried he was disappointing Rubble. When the two returned to the newborn's apartment however, they found Chromia and Geomotus waiting for them. As Chromia left with Windblade, she linked Rubble's communicator to hers and Prowl's, secretly installing a tracker in the link. Unaware of this, Rubble went stargazing and thought he saw a Titan. The World In Your Eyes Part Three

Soon enough, Rubble found himself back at the Pyramid to witness the birth of a new Cybertronian. As he and Bumblebee debated the philosophy of the Reversionists, Bumblebee butted into a brawl between an Autobot and a Riser forcing Prowl to intervene. As Prowl vented his frustrations to Bumblebee, Rubble piped up and offered to help identify the Voin he'd seen, only to be shot down on the basis that the aliens were hard to distinguish. Having a funeral to attend, Bumblebee then returned Rubble to his quarters for the evening. The World In Your Eyes Part Four

Quake didn't appreciate Rubble trying to trick him out of his Fruity Pebbles.

The next day, Rubble returned to the Tether before Bumblebee was due to take him to the Winged Moon. When his shift ended, however, Bumblebee called to cancel the trip. Saddened, Rubble made his way back home. As his route took him through the Xeno-Quarter, Rubble allowed himself to become sidetracked by the diversity of alien lifeforms within the sub-city before a Voin greeted him as "small Cybertronian." Deducing that Voin to be the one of interest from the night of Brainstorm's murder, Rubble chased the cephalopod deeper into the district before he sighted one of its genetically engineered drones panicking. Tracing the simian's route, Rubble was greeted to the horrific sight of Quake having gruesomely murdered the scavenger. When the veteran turned his attention to Rubble, the newborn fled, frantically trying to call Bumblebee. When Prowl picked up, Rubble hid himself and explained his situation to the security officer before Quake caught up with Rubble and easily killed the little 'bot. The World In Your Eyes Part Five

Along with the Voin's, Rubble's body was recovered from the Xeno-Quarter and brought to Ratchet. Examining the corpse, Ratchet found multiple counts of massive blunt trauma, but noted that the first blow had probably been the killing one and that the differing style of attack likely meant Rubble hadn't been killed by Brainstorm's killer. Both Prowl and Bumblebee carried great guilt for Rubble's demise, the former swearing to find the youth's killer while the latter doubled down on his commitment to join the Ascenticon Guard. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part One

Shortly before Sentinel Prime's return to Cybertron, silent marches were held in both Rubble and Brainstorm's honours. Witnessing the march in Iacon, Megatron offered Bumblebee his condolences for Rubble's passing. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Four When Megatron discovered that Soundwave had taken it upon himself to tie up loose ends, he chewed out his communications chief for the sheer stupidity of his decisions and their consequences, Rubble's death among them. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Five

Orion Pax and Chromia eventually uncovered evidence that suggested that Quake had killed Rubble but withheld it from Bumblebee, currently acting as a mole in the Ascenticon Guard, lest he do something rash. After Bumblebee had reported on a situation in the Cybertronian Mountains, Pax and Chromia informed Bumblebee of their suspicions. The Change In Your Nature Part Three Upon being relieved of his mission in the Guard, Bumblebee mourned Rubble again, All Fall Down later avenging him by beheading Quake. Prisoners

Before the Decepticons marched on Darkmount, Optimus Prime warned Bumblebee to not become someone Rubble wouldn't recognize, the yellow Autobot assuring his leader that he wouldn't. After the Autobots had fled Cybertron and sought refuge on the Winged Moon, Bumblebee remembered Rubble's love for the planetoid as they made their final approach. Fate of Cybertron

Notes

[edit]
Rubble has bubble.
  • In Brian Ruckley's original pitch to IDW Publishing, the character who would eventually become Rubble was originally conceived as a human that'd somehow been transported to Cybertron, who would've been gradually introduced to the planet's society and characters before the outbreak of war. As the story evolved, however, the decision was made to make him a newly-forged Transformer instead; his relation with Bumblebee was the result of Hasbro requesting that Bumblebee play a prominent role in the opening arc of the series.<ref>Transformerspodden interview with Brian Ruckley, 2 July 2021 </ref>
