Autoceptor is an Autobot from the Generation 1 and Unicron Trilogy continuity families (via the Kronoform toyline).
So that's what autocepting looks like.

Autoceptor is one of several Transformers who turn into wristwatches. As an Intelligence Officer, he uses his unassuming wristwatch mode to secretly gather intel for the Autobots. He prefers to maintain his cover as a timepiece, but when the stakes are high he will join the fray in either his robot or supercar mode.<ref>1985 Takara mail-away flyer</ref>

He has been described as a "time machine",<ref>Packaging description ("An incredible robot car time machine!")</ref> but his specific abilities in that regard remain unknown.

Autoceptor hailed from a dimension where the faction of heroic Originators, to which he belonged, fought the evil Terminators in an eternal battle. Autoceptor and some of his fellow "time machines" were dispatched to another universe inhabited by the robot lifeforms known as the Transformers, where they came to be allied with the similarly-heroic Autobot faction.

Some time later, Autoceptor received a communication from another Originator robot, named DK-2, who had also found his way to the world of the Transformers and was assisting the human fugitive Dia Cinders. Knowing that the Autobots had recently learned of the woman's innocence and wanted to clear the air with her, Autoceptor used his wristwatch mode to restrain Dia upon meeting up with her and DK-2, and called in his comrades Spinout and Tigertrack. The two Autobots proceeded to explain to Dia that some of her ancestors had in fact been Originators from Autoceptor and DK-2's universe, explaining the precognitive abilities that had caused her to be mistakenly identified as a criminal in the first place. The Transformers Autoceptor is a functional "5-Function" digital wristwatch (month, day, hour, minutes, seconds... hell of a range there, huh?) from Takara’s Kronoform line, revived as Transformers merchandise. He transforms from a robot to a car of undetermined model (possibly a Trans Am or Camaro), and has a third watch mode for when he was attached to the plastic watch-band. He came in at least four different colors; gray, black, blue, and red.
In Japan, Autoceptor was available as a mail-away item, listed as part of the "Watchbot" subgroup (a subgroup of one, apparently). He cost 6 Robot Points and 2500 yen. It is unknown what range of colors he was made in for this release; the order booklet shows both blue and black.

Autoceptor's second toy was to be a working, transformable digital watch planned for release by TakaraTomy in cooperation with Japanese watch company Seahope. He and his fellow Chrono Label watch Time Limit would have used the same mold, but their release was delayed indefinitely and was eventually cancelled. They would have displayed various emotions on their LED screens when the button to check the time was pressed, such as an annoyed face when used too often or a sleeping face when used at night. Autoceptor's LED color would have been red.

Notes

  • The original toy's packaging and instructions spell the name as both "Autoceptor" and "Auto Ceptor" in varying places. "Autoceptor" looks slightly less weird.
  • The Kronoform version packaging shows (almost) the entire Kronoform line for the United States in 1984. It appears that only three toys in this assortment were sold as Transformers: Autoceptor, Deceptor (who is missing from the cross-sell) and Kaltor. Kronoform also released the "Scorpia" and "Robot Time Machine" watches in 1984, two items that would finally see Transformers-branded release almost a decade later during Generation 2.
  • The Kronoform packaging claims that Autoceptor "Transforms to hundreds of different vehicle and robotic forms." Riiiiiight.
