Ghosts of Yesterday prequel novel
The Nemesis, under the command of Starscream, came across the human-built Ghost 1 spacecraft and the Autobot flagship Ark. Built specifically to look imposing and ominous, the Nemesis was still more of a transport than a warship and had relatively limited combat abilities. Barricade operated as helmsman and science officer, although it is unknown if this was his permanent function. Ghosts of Yesterday

In ancient history, the being later referred to as The Fallen was encased in a sarcophagus by his brothers after he attempted to destroy them in a bid to seize the powerful, life-giving artifact known as the All Spark. To free himself from his ages-long confinement, he required a harvester, a device that could drain the energy of a sun to replenish the All Spark. After much time passed, his sarcophagus, now a ancient relic, was discovered by the science teams led by Optimus Prime, and was seized by the increasingly volatile Protector of Cybertron, Megatron. The Fallen seduced Megatron with dreams of power, ordering him to obliterate all that defied them, including Optimus, his mostly non-combat scientists, and soldiers who did not join Megatron's new "Decepticon" army. As part of his plan to escape his prison, the Fallen commanded Megatron to build a large interstellar vessel called the Nemesis to search for a harvester. When the ship was complete, it was launched with a crew that consisted of the bulk of the Decepticon forces and the relic. Megatron pleaded to be able to go along, but the relic ordered him to stay behind to rule Cybertron. With the majority of the Decepticons gone with the Nemesis, ruling Cybertron proved difficult, as the Autobots put up a strong resistance.
After many years of hard fighting and the Autobots finally losing the civil war, Optimus Prime decided to capture the All Spark and hurl it into space, so that Megatron could not possess it and corrupt it. Megatron immediately followed the All Spark on his own with his interstellar alternate mode. Along the way he found the Nemesis, adrift and abandoned by all but the relic. The relic ordered Megatron to continue his pursuit of the All Spark since, once freed, the Cube would seek out a harvester. Meanwhile, Optimus Prime and his crew prepared to follow Megatron in their own ship. Defiance #4
After the All Spark was launched into space and Megatron went after it, Starscream hastily assembled a crew to pursue Optimus Prime's starship. They were lured into a trap by the Autobot ship, colliding with concussion chain mines as soon as they came out of warp. Crippled, the ship limped back home where it took many cycles for drones and slave labour to repair the damage. When repairs were finally completed, the Decepticon battlecruiser followed the All Spark's trace energy pulse to the fourth planet of a distant solar system. The Reign of Starscream #1
After the All Spark was destroyed and Megatron killed in battle on Earth, Starscream retrieved Frenzy's body and returned to his ship where Thundercracker loyally waited. Declaring himself Lord of Cybertron, Starscream now had the knowledge to recreate the All Spark. The Reign of Starscream #2 The ship came under attack by a group of Autobots under the command of Arcee, but they were swiftly dealt with. Triumphant, Starscream and crew traveled through the space bridge to the city of Trypticon on Cybertron The Reign of Starscream #3, but unbeknownest to the Decepticons, Arcee managed to stow away as the ship lifted off. The Reign of Starscream #4

Starscream's All Spark scheme ultimately failed, and what's more, Dreadwing, commander of the Decepticon drone army, staged a coup. During the ensuing battle between the drones, Autobots and Starscream's loyalists, Dreadwing escaped to the space port in Trypticon, intent on escaping the planet on board Starscream's battlecruiser. However, Starscream crippled the ship before it could get away, and just as it teleported, the warship exploded, taking much of the city with it. A portion of the ship that did manage to enter the space bridge appeared above Mars and crashed to the surface. Dreadwing survived the crash, but was quickly killed by a vengeful Starscream. The Reign of Starscream #5
His short-lived "reign" over, Starscream sat amongst the ship's wreckage and carved the symbols of Cybertron's warriors into his body in ritual. Alliance #1 After Starscream had left for Earth to follow up on a lead Barricade had provided, Soundwave came upon the debris field and examined the remains of Dreadwing and the imprint of Frenzy upon the red soil.
