Title

The Japanese title for this series is 合体大作戦, gattai dai sakusen. I feel the current English take on the title is inaccurate (since, at least, it leaves out the "dai"), but I'm not entirely sure what a better translation would be. Any thoughts on the subject? --Monzo 13:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

The latter sounds better to me, since it keeps the nifty rhyme more or less intact. On a sidenote, I can't find a pic of the logo ANYWHERE. Not even on the giftset boxes for Battle Gaia or Guard City (just the plain ole Transformers logo). Hurm... --DrSpengler 16:16, 22 April 2009 (EDT)

I utterly missed out on this exchange until now.

I originally picked "Operation: Combination" as a translation because it not only captured the gist of the original with some catchy alliteration, it also sounded like a title that would be used for an English-language toy line. Literal translation of "Dai" is not absolutely necessary to convey the idea, I believe. I take some of my support for this stance from seeing "Daisakusen" in an even less literal translation: The Japanese title for Star Trek is Uchū Daisakusen (宇宙大作戦), or Operation: Outer Space/Operation: Universe.

Of course, I came up with "Operation: Combination" back when the majority of American Transfandom had zero direct knowledge of Japanese. Despite how much that may have changed, however, at the last BotCon, I heard several fans pronounce "henkei" as though it rhymed with "hentai" (to Fumihiko-san's amusement), reminding me that the fandom's expanded ability to deal with untranslated Japanese terminology is not unilateral by any means.--Apcog 17:29, 30 April 2009 (EDT)

Listings

I'm debating if we should also list the components for the combiners. Not that the story ever seemed to treat the combiners as if they ever ever separated, near as I can tell. --M Sipher 18:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't think there's any real reason to list them here. At best it'd be redundant, since the combiners are all already listed. On the Micromaster Collection page, on the other hand, it would make more sense to list them all separately. --Andrusi 19:05, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

It was a long time ago, and I can't remember where (which is a damn shame) I heard that the OC combiners were sort-of reverse gestalts/combiners - Guard City, for example, is a single Cybertron who can split himself into five modules (the individual names being something toy-only), hence the lack of pre-reissue bios, individual mentions and so on. No bloody idea where I heard/read that, sadly, or even whether it's one of those old chestnuts about the Japanese line that got discredited years ago - more just hoping it'd jog someone else's memory than anything else. -- Cliffjumper 20:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

The "Corps"

The official titles of the OpComb groups consisting of repackaged Turbomasters and Predators are the "Road Gundan" and "Jet Gundan". "Gundan" is a Japanese word that can mean "Army Corps" or "Corps" (and maybe just "Army" too, although I'm less sure of that). What version of the group name(s) should we use for the wiki? Yep! Consider it done. Because it is. Edited one of the updated nav boxes to get the code format, then copied the code over to the Operation Combination nav template and made the necessary changes. Return of Convoy is fixed as well. --Tigerpaw28 00:43, 27 October 2009 (EDT)
