The Wings of Honor continuity is a Generation 1 universe based loosely on the original cartoon.[1] It has been depicted in Fun Publications comics and prose stories, the first of which was titled "Wings of Honor".

Overview

Most of the Wings of Honor stories are set in Cybertron's distant past, at the outbreak of the Great War. Some action also occurs in a nebulously modern setting, but so far only as a framing device. In one of those instances, Nexus Prime declares that this universe has some sort of importance to him and his quest, though he doesn't know exactly what.

The historical tales feature a young Kup alongside mostly characters who never appeared in the cartoon. So far, this has allowed the writers to avoid problems of relative age, since Kup is supposed to be significantly older than almost everyone in the present day. And the only familiar characters in that early timeframe are either also old or have an excuse.

It's unclear exactly how far this continuity diverges from the cartoon. For example, the first scene is very reminiscent of the shuttle battle in The Transformers: The Movie: Hot Rod, Kup, and the Dinobots are in a shuttle being attacked by Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. Instead of crashing on Quintessa, though, the Autobots duck into a nebula instead. As they repair the ship, Kup tells the story of the battle of Beta-Nine, which he is able to nearly complete before the Decepticons find them. And when the Decepticons board the shuttle, they're quickly defeated by the Autobots. This might be a revision of the Movie scene, or it might just be an uncannily similar event; there are no clues within the story to indicate for sure.

Creative team

Writing duties have shuffled between Rik Alvarez, Forest Lee, Pete Sinclair, and Jesse Wittenrich (or combinations thereof). Art has been drawn by Guido Guidi, Dan Khanna, and Andrew Griffith.

Collectors' Club forum thread in which Pete Sinclair says the Wings of Honor continuity "is VERY similar to the original G1 toon, though it is different enough to allow us some leeway in the overall story telling. [...] Scourge will have always been in his BotCon 2009 body, Hot Rod in his Universe Legends body and so on. As time goes on there will be more subtle, and not so subtle, differences."
