Some sparks are mitotic which allow a Transformer to separate into more than one part while still being a single Transformer.

Fiction

Toy bios

Magmatron's mitotic spark allows him to separate into three powerful dinosaur modes, Landsaur, Seasaur, and Skysaur.

Animated cartoon

Jetfire and Jetstorm, who are twins, have mitotic sparks. The Allspark Almanac

Revenge of The Fallen Film

Arcee had a mitotic spark that was split between three seperate bodies. When one of her bodies was destroyed, the remaining two seemed to still function at full capacity (that is, until they were destroyed, as well).

Notes

  • This ability should not be confused with combiners, which combine separate characters into a single machine.
  • Other Transformers exist that are able to split into component forms in the same manner as Magmatron. Those Transformers, for the most part, were introduced before the concept of sparks entered into fiction. Notable examples are the Duocons and Sky Lynx. It hasn't been established if those Transformers could be retconned into having mitotic sparks or not.
