Synopsis

This story follows the events of "End of the Road!".

Cobra Commander believes Destro and the Baroness, working with G.I. Joe, to be at large in his Trans-Carpathian castle, and Scarlett (posing as a traitor to the Joes) and Dr. Biggles-Jones lead the hunt. Meanwhile, the Joes prepare to send in Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow. Destro provides the distraction he promised the Joes by transforming the castle. Elsewhere, this transformation attracts the attentions of Megatron. Meanwhile, Destro and the Baroness make their escape, but not before Snake-Eyes is forced to run Scarlett through with his sword to protect her cover. Just as Cobra recovers from the raid, Megatron appears, and he's not happy.

(Numbers indicate order of appearance.)

Errors

  • Megatron speaks in square Transformer speech bubbles in some panels and round human speech bubbles in other panels.
  • Megatron flies. Robot-mode flight is not an ability Transformers generally had in Marvel Comics.

Items of note

  • The cover title of the series for this issue is G.I. Joe Starring Snake-Eyes and Ninja Force. However, the title in the indicia (and hence the legal title) is G.I. Joe A Real American Hero.
  • The issue came polybagged, with a free G.I. Joe "Search and Destroy" trading card. This led to a price increase to $1.75.
  • Megatron is seen talking to another Transformer as they witness the transformation of Destro's castle. At this point, both Transformers are in the shadows and are unidentified (although both have two eyes). It seems likely that this was intended to be Starscream, but the second Transformer is never seen again in the unfolding G.I. Joe story, and Megatron is seen explicitly reviving Starscream (and wonder why he's bothering to do so) in "All or Nothing!"
