Talk:Transformers: Prime (franchise)
Hasbro's names for the continuity
For what it's worth, when Hasbro tried to put a name to the continuity they called it "Cybertron/Exodus continuity" and the "new aligned continuity".[1] The first is too clunky. "Aligned continuity" isn't too bad. - Starfield 21:54, 26 July 2010 (EDT)
Prime vs WFC
Are these the same franchise or 2 franchises in the same continuity family? If they are the same, shouldn't they have the same nav-box? --Khajidha 11:36, 26 September 2010 (EDT)
Prime, WfC/Exodus still linked?
Hasbro hasn't made any mentions of links to WfC/Exodus in regards to Prime beyond the initial stuff we heard of and WfC Bumblebee's figure bio that says he's now mute. Has Hasbro gone back on that link anywhere?--MCRG 01:10, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- No. --ItsWalky 01:26, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
Continuity family, franchises etc.
Here's my take on how to organize all this into different pages:
- Modern continuity family
- This would contain links to two franchises: War for Cybertron and Prime. It would also be our primary repository for explanations/descriptions of Hasbro's intentions re: continuity, etc.
- War for Cybertron (franchise)
- This would contain links to everything WfC-branded (the game, the toys, the comic, and Exodus). It would also have a brief summation of the continuity wackiness, with a focus on WfC.
- Prime (franchise)
- This would contain links to everything Prime-branded (the show, comics, and toys). It would also have a brief summation of the continuity wackiness, with a focus on Prime.
How does that sound? I'm not married to the "Modern continuity family" name; I could see using one of Starfield's suggestions instead. On the other hand, if Aaron Archer is right and this is going to be the wellspring of TF fiction for the next ten years, maybe "Modern" isn't a bad choice after all. (At the very least, we won't have to worry about it being out-of-date for a loooooong time.)

- I'm interested in how the wiki finally sorts this out. The Exodus novel isn't really part of the War for Cybertron franchise. The book and game were made independently. But the comic is part of the War for Cybertron franchise because it says so on the front—even though the comic is based on the novel. With the comic book and online timeline, Hasbro has pretty much retconned "War for Cybertron" as being the Exodus storyline. In a way, the video game is part of the WfC franchise, but not the WfC continuity. Besides, the video game is totally G1. - Starfield 21:00, 14 February 2011 (EST)
- I'm just going by simple branding, which is what franchises ultimately are. From that perspective, there's no debate: Exodus really IS part of the WfC franchise because it's right there on the cover. You're right that the continuity connections are tangled and strange, and we should definitely point that stuff out where appropriate. But in terms of basic franchise-page separation, I think the name on the box/cover should be our starting point, as it always has been. - Jackpot 21:12, 14 February 2011 (EST)
- Oh yea. I just read that as part of a sentence. - Starfield 21:14, 14 February 2011 (EST)
- It is a little ambiguous in that way, I'll admit. But it was clearly no accident, and the only other alternative, "Prime", doesn't appear anywhere on it, so there we are. By the way, looking back over your earlier post at the very top of this page, I think I might like "New Aligned continuity family" better than "Modern continuity family". "New Aligned" really IS what it is: Hasbro has taken bits and pieces of everything that's come before and realigned them into a new foundation. Turning a Hasbro rep's offhand phrase into a proper name is a little "Unicron's spawn"-ish, but for lack of a better option, I can dig it. - Jackpot 21:22, 14 February 2011 (EST)

War for Cybertron is technically a franchise article as each game has its own article. Just curious then, would you move Optimus Prime (Prime) to "Optimus Prime (WFC)" because that's when he first appeared? And I do believe we will have an article for continuity family, but if I may, I'd propose the term "Bible continuity family" simply because Hall of Fame, the WFC games and book, and cartoon are using this 400-page Hasbro production bible. Afterall, the novel is named after the second book of the Pentateuch. ;) Alientraveller 14:32, 15 February 2011 (EST)
- I'd had that thought about Transformers: War for Cybertron too. I haven't examined that collection of pages thoroughly yet, but it seems like they wouldn't require too much alteration... there's even a franchise-nav already set up.
- As for "Optimus Prime (WFC)", yes, that would be the logical conclusion. But I'm not personally very invested in making that happen, especially if people prefer the uniformity of "(Prime)".
- And as for "Bible continuity family", I see where you're going with it, but I think the word has too much real-world baggage. I figured we would mention the new story-bible prominently, though, since you're right that it seems to be the center of all of Hasbro's TF endeavors these days.
