[edit]- It's not completely true that "the days of week are named after various classical elements". It's... complicated. So complicate that I don't know how to rewrite for now, so I just write down here:
- In Japan, the days of week are named after the "Shichiyō" (七曜), which are the seven astronomical objects which can be easily recognized by eyes: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.
- The Wednesday corresponds to the planet "Mercury", while the Japanese name for Mercury just happens to be "水曜". And, "水" is "water", making the planet's name fit to be "Wednesday.
