Carla Spencer is exceedingly British. She is aide to Aaron Brooks at a radio telescope monitoring station in the Mojave Desert.

Dark of the Moon novel

When the monitoring station detected an object which impacted on the Moon, Spencer attempted to raise the administrator of NASA, James E. Webb, resorting to harsh language when she got the runaround. She eventually got through to Webb, and as she passed the phone over to her boss, Brooks asked her out for a drink. The pair were a couple when some time later John F. Kennedy announced the intent to put a man on the Moon.
