Doctor Aaron Brooks is a scientist in charge of a monitoring station in the Mojave Desert. The dull tedium of the work has sapped his enthusiasm for his work, but things are about to get more exciting. His aide is Carla Spencer.

After a tedious day's work, Brooks was about to finish his shift when the instruments lit up with the news of an imminent collision. After double checking, Brooks consulted Kelly, who said it would be extremely bad if the object hit Earth, and Newman, who was unable to calculate where it would hit. Luckily the object hit the Moon, but they all agreed that the readings indicated it wasn't a meteor or anything else mundane. While trying to get hold of NASA administrator Webb, Brooks asked Carla Spencer out for a drink. By the time John F. Kennedy announced the intent to put a man on the Moon, Brooks and Spencer were a couple.
