The United Nations Wintering Observation Base in Antarctica was destroyed when the Decepticons began drilling for oil there. The loss of the station was noticed by the Autobots and the Multiforce went to investigate, leading to a battle with Liokaiser that was observed by a small group of survivors from the station. As the battle raged on, the survivors found themselves adrift on a slab of ice, and it wasn't until more Autobots arrived that they were rescued by Boater. The Predacons set a trap for the Autobots in Antarctica, stealing diamonds from a mine. To their surprise, instead of the expected Autobot Brothers, the Build Team turned up instead. Sky-Byte took their leader, Wedge captive, trading the young bot for a disk supposedly containing the plans for the Autobot Global Space Bridge which was promptly stolen by one of the many penguins inhabiting the continent. The NS Yamal was on its way to McMurdo Station to reunite people with their families for Christmas when it was attacked by Megatron and Starscream. They intended to make the ship's reactors meltdown so they could expose energon deposits under the ice, however they were foiled by Optimus Prime and his team.
