Global Space Bridge

"There is no lava, I can't see the miles of lava pressing down and wanting to get me, ahahaha...."

With only a relative handful of Autobots on-hand to defend the entirety of planet Earth, Optimus Prime and his troops need a way to travel across the planet swiftly to respond to Predacon attacks. To this end, the Build Team has constructed a complex network of hidden tunnels, bridges, and most notably, transwarp portals, known as the Global Space Bridge. The network allows the Autobots to travel to any location on Earth in a matter of minutes.

[edit]

When the first International Scientific Symposium in New York City was attacked by Megatron, Optimus Prime picked up Koji Onishi in Metro City. The boy was alarmed when Optimus headed for what appeared to be the end of an incomplete highway, but the road began telescoping out over the harbour, allowing them entry into the Global Space Bridge so they could reach New York in a matter of minutes. Although the Autobot Brothers also used the Global Space Bridge to reach the battleground, Megatron ultimately kidnapped Koji's father, Doctor Onishi. Battle Protocol! Later, Optimus took Koji to the hidden Cybertron base, and introduced him to T-AI, who was able to use the Global Space Bridge to direct the Autobots to anywhere the Predacons attacked. An Explosive Situation

Wedge got drunk one night, and then one thing led to another...

The Global Space Bridge was utilised in an unusual manner when a ship was attacked by Sky-Byte some distance out from Metro City, at the location of the undersea Black Pyramid. T-AI was able to extend the road entryway for the bridge out to sea for a significant distance, allowing the Autobots to get closer to the action. The Hunt for Black Pyramid Another unusual use was made of the bridge when Megatron constructed a Mega-Laser Cannon. To destroy the laser, the Spychangers had T-AI extend the Global Space Bridge around the laser, cocooning it and containing the laser's energy. The Spychangers then zoomed around the bridge in order to build up nuclear-thermal energy, which they then unleashed on the Megastar. Mirage's Betrayal

The Autobots continued to use the bridge to swiftly reach locations where the Predacons were causing trouble. Despite this, they were unable to prevent Megatron's creation of the Decepticons. The Decepticons

The Autobot Brothers first met the Build Team when they attempted to take the Global Space Bridge to Antarctica to investigate an attack on a diamond mine and found that the tunnel they were taking was incomplete. The Build Team agreed to finish the tunnel so long as they could deal with the attack themselves. Although the Predacons attempted to get the team to turn over a plan of the Global Space Bridge, Hightower instead handed over the plans to a sewer. Wedge's Short Fuse

The Global Space Bridge is run by vast banks of vacuum tubes.

The Decepticons were particularly irked by the Autobots' asset, especially when X-Brawn used it to elude them. They tailed Grimlock and were able to find the control center for the Global Space Bridge's computer network. A quick bit of sabotage resulted in the bridge depositing Autobots in all manner of random locations (except for Midnight Express who found himself spiralling endlessly in the Global Space Bridge. It wasn't long before the Build Team located the problem and were able to effect repairs. Landfill After reviewing a lot of footage of their previous battles, the Autobots tested the Global Space Bridge. Amazingly, it worked. Lessons of the Past

A short time later, the Decepticon Commandos were foiled in their attempt to steal some energy by the Build Team, and began trying to goad the Autobot team into a one-on-one battle by attacking construction sites. When the Build Team eventually found out, Hightower sabotaged the Global Space Bridge so they could face the Commandos without interference from the other Autobots. A Test of Metal

Optimus and the Autobot Brothers again used the Global Space Bridge to escape the wrath of the newly arrived Ultra Magnus. They retired to an island where Optimus began recuperating from Magnus's attack. Unfortunately no sooner had the brothers left, than Sky-Byte sealed the entrance to the space bridge with a pile of rocks, trapping Optimus there and leaving him a target for Megatron and the Decepticons. The Autobots broke through the pile of boulders, only to find that Optimus and Ultra Magnus had merged into Omega Prime, and were no longer in need of assistance. Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!

The space bridge proved to be invaluable in locating the rest of the O-Parts and snatching them before the Decepticons could. A Friendly Contest Although the Decepticons ultimately got control of Cerebros, Fortress Maximus proved to be only controllable by those with human bio-energy. Scourge boosted the human portion of his bio-energy and attempted to control the giant, but the Autobots were able to use the Global Space Bridge to transport a thousand children to the battlefield and overrode the Decepticon's control. The Human Element

Following the Decepticon assault on the Autobot base and the subsequent destruction of the Megastar, Galvatron gained control of Earth's children through the use of cyber-bats. The Autobots retreated into the Global Space Bridge, however Galvatron was able to blast open the entrance, sending his own troops in after them. The Decepticon leader also used his Striker Lance to rupture the space bridge wall, flooding the tunnel with lava. The Autobots, fortunately, survived and were able to escape from the tunnel. Galvatron's Revenge

The fight went no better for the Autobots, however Optimus and Ultra Magnus once again combined into Omega Prime and challenged Galvatron to a duel. He directed T-AI to open a path through the space bridge to Earth's core, where he faced the Decepticon leader. The Global Space Bridge was used as a conduit for the energy gathered by Fortress Maximus from the children of the world, gifting Prime with the Matrix Blade.

Following the defeat of the Decepticon and Predacon forces, the Build Team returned to working on the Global Space Bridge. The Final Battle

Legacy

[edit]
  • Omega Prime (2025)
The HasLab crowdfunded figure for Omega Prime includes a pair of stands inspired by the Global Space Bridge for his use or the use of his components Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus as the "Tier 2" offering for the campaign. The stands have the ability to combine into a section of the Global Space Bridge's roadway as seen in the series, producing a vehicle mode display option just big enough for a single one of the two roughly Commander Class figures. If you want to display them both at once you could always put Magnus's car carrier bona fides to work and stack them? The Global Space Bridge needed 16,000 backers to enter production, and will ship to campaign backers in Fall 2025.
Omega Prime was revealed on January 30, 2024, with the crowdfunding campaign beginning soon after. The project reached 50% funding in only 24 hours, beating all three previous Transformers HasLabs. It reached base funding (10,000 backers) on February 9th, 2024, in only ten days - three times quicker than the previous record holder, Deathsaurus.<ref>{{#if: Exciting news! Notes

[edit]
Now approaching station Tron.
  • In the original Car Robots cartoon, the system is called the "Cybertron Net", with the CGI tunnel part (see below) referred to as the "Mantle Tunnel" (マントルトンネル Mantoru Tonneru).
  • A working name in English for the Global Space Bridge was "Global Expressway", used in the introduction to the script for "Battle Protocol!"
  • There are three wildly different depictions of the interior of the Global Space Bridge, appearing often at various points in the same episode:
    • A CGI tunnel with supports and magma pulsating outside (this is the "Mantle Tunnel" in Car Robots).
    • A more abstract black tunnel with a white grid on it.
    • A conventional tunnel with metal walls and piping.
  • The Global Space Bridge shares a number of similarities with the network of secret tunnels and portals known as the Autobot Road from the Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers manga. The Transformers Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook would later combine the two into a single concept in 2022, with the Global Space Bridge being its technical name, but most simply call it the Autobot Road
