The V-Star is a component of Star Saber from the Victory portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

On its own, the V-Star (Vスター V Sutā) is a flying weapons platform, able to be controlled remotely by Autobot leader Star Saber, or, on occasion, piloted by Jean Minakaze. In addition, it connects to Star Saber's Saber form in both robot and vehicle mode, providing him with more power and weapons. Due to the V-Star's size, it's usually found parked in Shuttle Base's hangar deck or in the maintenance bay, at least when Star Saber isn't using it.

Fiction

Victory cartoon

While fighting Dinoking, Star Saber mounted the V-Star and used it to strafe the combiner. Sneak Attack! Dinoking The Dinoforce attacked Jean's school with Leozack, and Star Saber had Jean pilot the V-Star to aid in the school's defence. When Star Saber later needed to combine with it, Jean ejected, though the lack of a parachute meant that Holi had to catch him. Attack! Leozack

The V-Star demonstrated its versatility when Star Saber was fighting with Leozack at an ocean amusement park — the Rescue Patrol Team were able to use it to evacuate from the damaged buildings. Move Out! Rescue Team During an attack on a uranium mine, Star Saber rode on the V-Star and successfully shot down Leozack. Infiltration... The Uranium Mine

Too large to fit into the railway tunnels under New York City in his largest mode, Star Saber ventured in using his smaller mode with the V-Star in tow. It was later used to attack Deathsaurus as Star Saber tried to stop him from stealing energy. Big City - Underground Terror During another fight, Breast Animals damaged the V-Star, forcing Star Saber to separate from it. The New Warrior - Hellbat

The Decepticons continued to steal energy. On one particular attempt, Hellbat attempted to divert Star Saber to prevent him from pursuing Leozack. Star Saber responded by separating from the V-Star, which continued the pursuit while Star Saber dealt with Hellbat. The V-Star was able to shoot the rope tethering the container of energy to Leozack, and the Decepticon got away empty-handed. Attack the Shuttle Base!! When the Decepticons planted a neutron bomb atop Marine Tower, Braver used the V-Star to ride to the top of the tower so he could begin dismantling the bomb. It was later used to knock out the tractor beams on the Thunder Arrow, which the Decepticons were using to draw in an oil tanker. Tanker Hijack Operation

The V-Star was again utilised to destroy some tractor beams, during an altercation in the asteroid belt when Star Saber investigated some starship disappearances and stumbled on yet another Decepticon plan. It proceeded to attack Hellbat while Star Saber was busy brawling with the rest of the Breastforce, going on to attack the Thunder Arrow and the Dinoforce while the human prisoners were evacuated. A Fierce Battle!! The Asteroid

When the Autobots visited the planet Micro, the V-Star spent most of the time parked outside the capitol building. Star Saber sent it to assist the Rescue Team with evacuations, and they hurried to complete their work so that it could be returned to him and aid him in his battle. Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior Again displaying the advantages of an independent platform, Star Saber was able to save both Holi and Greatshot from falling into a pool of lava. Rescue! Guyhawk

During an aerial dual with Guyhawk, Star Saber rode on the back of the V-Star and used his sword to strike at the Decepticon jet. Somehow this worked. Star Saber is just that awesome. Battle Up of Wrath!! The move worked so well that he did it again while battling against Deathsaurus in the Antarctic. Fight to the Death!! Antarctic Battle

Perhaps getting wise to this, Leozak, Guyhawk and Hellbat used their Electromagnetic Nunchaku to attach a bomb to the rear of the V-Star. Star Saber transformed and tried to detach it to no avail — the bomb exploded in his face. The V-Star crashed, but the Breastforce attacked him anew, forcing him to combine with it in robot mode to face them. A Deadly Battle With the addition of Victory Leo to the team, the V-Star wasn't used as much independently, though Jean and the Micromasters were seen polishing it up before Star Saber left for a conference. A Mystery?! The Deception of the Base Bombs

Victory manga

On one occasion, when Liokaiser had Star Saber and Jean in his grip, the Autobot leader took advantage of the fact that the Breastforce were busy arguing and separated from the V-Star, loosing the pair from the combiner's grip. Jean, in control of the V-Star, transformed it into a special battle mode, blasting Liokaiser while Star Saber whacked the Decepticon solidly with his shield. The Star of Friendship, Jean and Star Saber!

Toys

  • Star Saber (Large Brainmaster, 1989)
The V-Star originally came with Star Saber's toy. In grand Autobot leader tradition, it transforms into a battle station which Saber can man, and then into a larger body with which Saber can combine, forming "Star Saber". Saber slots into the empty chest area of the V-Star body, with his normal robot head forming Star Saber's ordinary, unmasked head, which is the appearance he commonly employs in fiction when he is not in battle. His battle helmet, featuring an Optimus-Prime-style mouthplate, is connected to the V-Star, and can swing up to fit over Saber's head.
  • Victory Saber (Multi-pack, 1989)
As a two-pack of Star Saber and Victory Leo, the V-Star is naturally included in this package.
