Vortex is the best lookout you could ever get, for sure-ex!

Synopsis

[edit]

Vortex stands guard at Decepticon Base, swearing that none will get past the "Lookout from Hell". Megatron soon limps back to the base after losing a fight with Optimus Prime. However, Vortex holds him up, as his orders were to not allow anybody through till Megatron returns to the base. "Anybody" including Megatron himself as he could be an imposter. To assist him in his duty, Vortex has a helicopter block transform into Mega-Vortex. Desperate, Megatron calls Optimus to come attack the Decepticon Base.

The Autobots succeed in chasing away Vortex and Megatron hosts a gathering for the Autobots in return. But alone, Megatron wonders if it was for the best, just as a beat-up Vortex returns to welcome his leader back.

Notes

[edit]
  • The Mega-Bumblebee re-appears, even though at the end of the prior comic, Optimus insisted that it be returned to its original owner. Guess he didn't want it back....

Transformers references

[edit]
  • The Decepticon Base is directly based on Generation 1 Scorponok's city mode.
  • Vortex's role as a guard is presumably derived from him doing the same job in the original Transformers cartoon episode "The Ultimate Weapon".
  • The Autobots are seen building a block structure similar to Metroplex.
  • Hoist is based on his Micro-Changer form, even though that toy assortment isn't available in Japan (so far).
  • This is the first comic to give us non-toy Transformers Kreons, and there are some undeniably... interesting choices among them.
    • Of note, the Jetfire in this story is not based on the actually-in-the-cartoon-that-aired-in-Japan "Skyfire" cartoon model. No, he's based on the didn't-appear-in-the-cartoon-and-never-sold-in-Japan-as-Jetfire-because-it's-from-major-competitor-Bandai original Jetfire toy. His parts in the comic are mostly concealed by his placement in the panel. Suck it, Harmony Gold.
