Altman and his colleague Greco were sent to Forbes's Garage to find anything that would lead to the Mechanic, whose criminal activities of recent had made him a priority arrest. The garage was abandoned, but the detectives did find two youngsters in panic about a supposedly haunted car. Altman and Greco took them to the station house, where their captain interpreted the story as further evidence that the Mechanic was receiving aid from the strange robots. As such, Altman and Greco received adjusted orders for the next day's operation to capture the Mechanic: If robots show up, take them out first.

As fate would have it, the robots did show up. While the police units focused on them, the Mechanic and his accomplice got away. When the robots also left, they tried pursuing them but found the road too slippery to continue. The police had anticipated that their ambush might fail however, and had a back-up plan; the super computer that Forbes had just stolen during this heist had a tracking device within it, which the police used to track down his hideout. As they prepared to storm the Mechanic's garage, their advance was interrupted by Blaster, one of the two robots they had encountered earlier. Putting his weapon down, the Autobot brokered an alliance between himself and the officers. With their concerted efforts, Altman, Greco, Blaster, Goldbug, and their reinforcements were able to put an end to the Mechanic's operation, though the criminal himself escaped their grasp.
