Bigger, Badder, Battling Dudicus Maximus?

Bruticus Maximus is one of four ancient Combiner robots chosen to guard the Super Energon pools deep within Cybertron. He and his peers were awakened from countless years of stasis by Megatron when Superion Maximus's brother was destroyed by the Decepticon leader.

He and his friend Constructicon Maximus are quite willing to abandon their duty to follow a strong leader whom they believe represent Cybertron's future, a Decepticon-dominated future. Bruticus is generally calmer and more agreeable than Constructicon.

He is the combined form of the Destruction Team:

When Megatron destroyed Superion Maximus's brother, he unlocked the living seal on the Super Energon pool and awakened the remaining Combiners. While Superion Maximus was aghast at his brother's destruction, the Decepticon combiners were merely curious about who had managed to reactivate them. Megatron declared that the Super Energon was his and that he was master of all Decepticons. Ambition

Bruticus Maximus voiced what an honor it was to now serve under a strong leader like Megatron. He quickly reinterpreted their mission to protect the Super Energon into protecting Megatron Galvatron, and even declared Superion Maximus a traitor to the cause for not bowing before their new master. Superion confronted the two Decepticons, reminding them that they'd protected the Super Energon together for millions of years, and asking them why they had let one Transformer have control of it all. Bruticus Maximus and Constructicon Maximus merely replied that Galvatron was their master now, and that he represented the future of Cybertron. Wishes Later, the combiners flew to the Miranda II to battle Superion Maximus and his new Autobot comrades, and Bruticus was pulled into a duel with Omega Supreme. Galvatron!

The Texas Longhorns just unveiled their new mascot!

When Six Shot pinpointed an Autobot signal on the planet's surface, Galvatron sent Constructicon Maximus and Bruticus Maximus out to investigate. They arrived at the crash site of the Miranda II and drew out the Autobots who were in hiding. The Combiners toyed with the drastically weaker enemy until Kicker, Arcee and the Omnicons arrived to tip the scales. As the Autobots took the opportunity to escape, Bruticus Maximus followed Kicker in his helicopter modes, hunting down the Omnicons as they attempted to shut off the energon cloud blocking the Autobots from returning to Cybertron. The Decepticons ultimately failed, and Bruticus Maximus was driven off with the others when Optimus Prime, Omega Supreme and the Autobots broke through a hole in the gas. Break Through

Bruticus and Constructicon were given a virtual chance to even the score against Superion in an Autobot training simulation. They triumphed over Superion Maximus two-against-one, but were pounded into the mat by their next opponent, Optimus Supreme. Distribution

We guess he's trainphobic.

Back in reality, the Combiners followed Optimus Prime and his Autobots on their way to rendezvous with Wing Saber's underground resistance. The Omega Train As the battle continued out onto the surface, Bruticus Maximus was present to serve his leader, Galvatron. Decepticon Army The fight with the Autobots carried over the planet, until Bruticus Maximus and the other Decepticons successfully cornered Optimus Prime and the other leaders of the Autobots in a box canyon. Things looked grim, until Primus awoke and remotely super-charged Prime's Combination Spark, making him strong enough to combine again with Omega to form Optimus Supreme. Bruticus Maximus was then taken out by Optimus Supreme's daring new pirouette maneuver...or something. Ironhide Team He recovered as the Autobots attempted to remove the energon gas from Cybertron's surface. Formidable

Bruticus Maximus was later attacked by Powerlinx Rodimus just before Galvatron fully immersed himself in the Super Energon pool for a second time. Galvatron Terror He continued the fight with the Autobots on Cybertron as Galvatron began to grow to the size of Unicron. Destructive Power

Ever walk a mile in another man's limbs?

Bruticus Maximus eventually paid for his treachery when a vengeful Superion Maximus attacked both Decepticon combiners. Surprised by the Autobot combiner's ferocity, both Decepticons were caught off-guard at first, until they over-confidently held him down, which proved to be their downfall. Superion launched all of his limbs at Constructicon Maximus, pinning him against a wall, as Superion's central component Storm Jet crushed the Decepticon combiner's spark, killing him.

Angered, Bruticus Maximus destroyed Superion's limbs, then began crushing him. Just as it seemed hopeless, a ghost-like entity appeared and shot off Bruticus's arm, freeing Superion. It was an apparition of Superion's older brother. Superion Maximus powerlinked with the dead Constructicon Maximus' limbs and attacked the confused Bruticus, piercing his spark, and causing a massive explosion which destroyed the remaining Decepticon. Energon

[edit]
  • Bruticus (Multi-pack, 2004)
  • ID Number: SD-21
  • Release date: October 14, 2004
  • Accessories: 2 energon blaster/combiner extremities (Blast Off's/Vorter's), 2 dual cannon/combiner extremities (Swindle's/Brawl's), 4 Decepticon-style energon stars
Bruticus is the combined form of five robots: Onslaught forms the torso, with each of the other four members of the team forming a limb to the robot. The nominal arrangement is with Swindle and Blast Off forming his right and left arms (respectively), and Vorter and Brawl forming the right and left legs (respectively). Each limb-bot's energon weapon can be configured to form either a hand or foot for the combiner. The use of universal connector joints allows limb-bots from Superion and Buildron to be part of the combiner as well.
In Takara's Super Link line, Bruticus was released only as a five-bot box set in the seventeenth and final wave of product, and it was the only item in said wave. Each figure has a few minor deco changes from the Hasbro version of the team, with the most common (and immediately recognizable) being the lack of the gear-shaped "Powerlinx" symbol.
These molds were later used for the 2008 Universe series Bruticus Maximus, Revenge of the Fallen Bruticus Maximus, and the Transformers United Bruticus Maximus.

In Hasbro's Energon toyline, "Bruticus Maximus" was only available as five individually-sold toys within the last two waves of the line. Each one is at least slightly different from their Takara Super Link releases; aside from color shade and paint application changes, these toys have the gear-shaped "Powerlinx" stamp the Takara versions lack.
The stock photos (seen at right) and instructions that come with each component show Stormcloud as the right arm, Blight as the left arm, and Blackout as the right leg, which is not how Bruticus Maximus's configuration in the show goes.
Only Barricade, Kickback and Stormcloud were initially released in 2004 for the North American, Asian and Australasian markets, with Blackout and Blight released later in 2005. This unfortunately led to many consumers having an incomplete Bruticus Maximus for many months, thanks to the "tail-ender" phenomenon meaning many stores never got the last two. (This was in the days before there were ten thousand online toy stores offering pre-orders on toys eight months before release.)

Notes

[edit]
  • Like the other two Energon "Maximus" combiners, the five component robots of Bruticus Maximus are made from only three molds: a central Deluxe torso, and two Basic limbs with two color schemes each. According to Hasbro representatives at BotCon 2005, this was done because the budget for the tail-end of Energon allowed for only nine-to-ten new molds, so they had the choice of two groups of five, or three groups of three. They went with the latter.
  • Bruticus Maximus is portrayed as the more eloquent member of the Decepticon Maximus duo, in contrast to his mainstream counterpart who is commonly seen as among the least intelligent combiner robots.
