Ed is a human from the Legends anthology portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Ed is an archaeology student taught by Doctor Boxer. Unlike his friend Randall, Ed is a more motivated and careful worker and keen to impress their teacher. Paddles likes his laugh. Ed is over six foot tall and lean, with a careworn face.

Prior to their trip to Dinobot Island, Ed borrowed an imaging scope from Shelly Marie Willicott, and he and Randall used the device to locate a large object under the sand. After several days of some not-so-careful excavation, they uncovered what Ed recognised as an elasmosaur, but which was in reality the Dinobot Paddles, who'd been left buried there decades before.

After dinner, Ed was surprised to see Paddles walking off, and immediately woke Randall. He was even more surprised when he plugged in the jukebox which the other students had dug up, only for it to turn out to be the Decepticon warrior Raze. He and Randall fell into a crevice created by Raze's pile drivers — whether they survived the encounter or not is unclear, as that was the last Paddles saw of them. Paddles
