General "Iron Butt" Austin works alongside General Flagg, advising him on his missions with G.I. Joe. He has been described as Destro's opposite. Hopefully, that doesn't mean he has a literal "iron butt" in contrast to Destro's own metal helm.

Transformers vs. G.I. Joe

[edit]

General Austin was at General Flagg's side when envoys from the planet Cybertron came to talk with Hawk as Earth's own representative. The Decepticons' evil intentions soon became apparent, and Soundwave took Hawk, Lady Jaye, and Flash captive. General Austin bemoaned that they were to be the first casualties in the "space war" to come, as an orbital defense satellite was being primed to fire a Coltonbolt down onto the Cybertronians. Thankfully, and despite General Austin writing them off, all of the Joes were able to safely escape the satellite's kill zone as it roasted the Decepticon to death. I Saw Three Ships

Aboard the USS Flagg, General Austin took part in General Hawk's mock-funeral, an elaborate set-up meant to draw Cobra into the open. The plan worked, though the Joes were faced with not only their human enemies, but the combined might of the Decepticobra alliance! After a hard-fought battle, the Joes were able to repel their opponents. Funeral for a Friend

Notes

[edit]
  • Austin was a comic-original character created by Larry Hama in 1982, as General Flagg's commanding officer. After Flagg's death, Austin commanded the Joes until he retired in issue #45, at which time he promoted Hawk to brigadier general and gave him full command of the team.
