Magnus is a high rank in the Autobot army. A 'bot bearing the name usually commands a position of authority and respect, and often functions as an inspirational figurehead on the battlefield.

Sometimes, Magnus is the highest rank, conferring the title of Supreme Commander of the Autobot military, and the chairbotship of the Autobot High Council. It is added to the end of the Autobot's name, replacing their previous title; and they are given the Magnus Hammer as a symbol of office. Notes

[edit]
  • The rank Magnus is derived from the name "Ultra Magnus", starting with the Generation 1 version. It is rather obvious that in this name, "Magnus" is the name, akin to "Optimus", and that "Ultra" is the qualifying component. This was corroborated when in 2022 the first draft of the movie script was released and before that there was the character Magnum in 2009. "Magnus" was first used as the rank portion of the name in 2007 when Transformers Animated played it as such. This use of "Magnus" as being reusable has since gone on to influence such names as Ursa Magnus in 2012 and Delta Magnus in 2016.
  • The Latin word "magnus" is the masculine form of "magna". This suggests some connection between the titles of Magnus and Magna, but there is no fiction that delves into that. At most, both Ultra Magnus and Pyra Magna were Great Generals in the 2019 IDW continuity.
