Monkeyfighter is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

The members of the Laser Beast Special Intelligence Bureau are certainly an eccentric lot, and Monkeyfighter (モンキーファイター Monkīfaitā) is no exception. He's bright and curious, always eager to poke his nose into things even if it has nothing to do with the job, he just wants to learn stuff. He's got a bright, sunny, can-do attitude that doesn't ever seem to take "failure" into consideration. It's an infectious attitude, and even his superiors find themselves admiring the zeal with which he approaches the job... they just wish he'd approach it with a bit more thought.

Though he's incredibly nimble, a master of stealth and skilled with the use of his Monkey Gear Laser (モンキーギアレーザー Monkī Gia Rēzā) to produce thick smokescreens to cover his escape, it's often in the service of a plan that was wrongheaded from the get-go. He's prone to mistakes that could have been easily avoided if he'd just mulled things over a bit more before acting. Still, he's trying, and that's gotta count for something, right?

Monkeyfighter was among those who resided in the Laser Beasts' underground city until its destruction. Legend of the Three Wise Ones During their invasion of the surface, a reconnoitering Monkeyfighter spotted White Leo and Dream Eater waving a white flag at the Laser Beast position and requesting negotiations. He and Rainbow Sam reported this development to Tigerburn, who ordered them to open fire. Beastformers VS Laser Beasts

Legends comic

Monkeyfighter was part of the final battle between the Beastformers and the Laser Beasts for Beast in 2023. He watched as a portal opened to reveal 2021-based Transformers and their allies fleeing the end of the Legends World. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

Part of the second—and rarer—assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Monkeyfighter is an anthropomorphic macaque in high-tech green armor modeled after a ninja. He even has 忍 (nin) molded into his headband, aka "shinobi" or "ninja". He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Nominally, he comes with the macaque-themed "Monkey Gear Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.

This toy was never released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line, not even in the limited capacity most "Shadow Warriors" were. As such, it commands a high price on the secondary market.

Notes

• It is unknown what Monkeyfighter's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been. He was slated to be released in one of twelve "motorized vehicle" (aka Battlecruiser) sets. The Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalogue shows him on the red-and-white eagle-type vehicle, but it's entirely possible he would have come with a different one; this assortment never made it to packaging sample stage.
