Pangol

Pangol is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Told Spartakus to go find the sun beneath the sea by his own damn self.

Born in the brutal, lawless "Rockland" of South Snarl, Pangol (パンゴール Pangōru) gained a horrible reputation as a remorseless killing machine. Moving with deceptive speed and protected by iron-hard scales, he would glide through the battlefield, striking down anyone in his way. Alligatron was the only beast he would listen to; anyone else who annoyed him was likely to feel the effects of his Living Stone (リビングストーン Ribingu Sutōn) MVP Weapon, which secretes a dangerous liquid that instantly petrifies living things on contact. And it was very easy to annoy him.

But following the war, he's a changed beast. In his travels through West Yutoranta he encountered its King Muskhorn, whose gentle and generous nature helped Pangol open up and realize he was blaming others for his own faults and taking it out on them. A reformed beast, he now serves as Muskhorn's subordinate Emperor, using his strength to help develop the land and create new opportunities for its people. As for the Living Stone... he still carries it, but will only use its power in the most dire of emergencies.

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

[edit]
  • Burstsun Special Set (Multi-pack, 1987)
  • ID number: 65
  • Accessories: Spear
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Pangol is an anthropomorphic [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}pangolin|{{#if:||pangolin}}]] in peach robotic armor. His left arm ends in a three-clawed digging hand. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
During this line, Pangol was only available in the Burstsun Special Set (バーストサンスペシャルセット Bāsutosan Supesharu Setto) multipack. This blindpacked set contains 10 figures out of a potential 14. Thankfully, these were not randomly-packed, and came in two distinct lineups.
The first version has White Leo with an exclusive "Burstsun" Battle Emblem, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Dog Hunter, Dream Eater, Muskhorn, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.
The second version has Ghost Alligatron, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Crowmax, Earthhog, Mingo Kid, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.

Beastformers

[edit]
  • Pangol (Beastformer, 1988)
  • ID number: 65
  • Accessories: "Living Stone" MVP Weapon
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Pangol was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Living Stone" .
He was sold in the second assortment of individually-packed Beastformers, with a peg-hole in the top flap, and a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it. This series did not have any kind of "rare card" random pack-in promotion.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

[edit]
  • Pangol's 1987 card/poster artwork incorrectly gives him a silver spear. His 1988 version of the art corrects this mistake.
  • The "Burstsun Special Set" art also shows him with a silver spear, but it shows everyone with a silver weapon regardless of actual toy-weapon color (except for Ghost Alligatron, who gets a ghostly-clear weapon that toy also does not have).
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the nickname Punk (パンク Panku).
  • Pangol is the only Beastformer who rules a country he was not born in.
