- Salmomancer is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Salmomancer (サーモマンサー Sāmomansā) believes himself to be the fastest being in the sea, and he might be right. He's been called the "Flying Scorpion of the Sea" and the "Sea Flier" due to his sheer speed in the water. The fins on his arms and shoulders don't just let him slice through the water, but slice through armor just as effectively. His favored tactic is to simply use his incredible swimming speed to rocket forward and strike opponents with a full-force assault, relentlessly attacking to prevent any hope of escape. He can further keep his victims in place thanks to his Big Fin Laser (ビッグフィンレーザー Biggu Fin Rēzā) MVP Weapon, which can fire charged shots that negate the target's motion and leaves them as dead weight in the water.
A shrewd and cunning warrior, he is quick to abandon ship once he decides victory is out of reach, even abstaining from getting involved in the first place. Not that he's a coward by any means, he just doesn't see much value in fighting for a lost cause.

[edit]- Beast Planet's Greatest Confrontation Set (Box set, 1988)
- ID number: 111
- Accessories: "Big Fin Laser" MVP Weapon
- Released in the "Laser Beasts" portion of the post-Transformers-branded Beastformers toyline, Salmomancer is an anthropomorphic chum salmon in high-tech blue armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.
- He was only available in the "Beast Planet's Greatest Confrontation Set" (ビースト星最大の対決セット Bīsuto-sei Saidai no Taiketsu Setto), a sizable box set that also included the Laser Beasts Skullgrotes and Kingbuster, a gold-chrome Battle Drill, the Beastformers Platinum Tiger, Yellow Giraffe and Golder, and the Tiger Hunter vehicle.
- While the Beastformer-side items in this box were all re-releases of toys previously available individually (although Golder and Giraffe only in the previous Transformers-branded part of the line), the Laser-Beast-side toys were mostly exclusive to this set, Salmomancer being one not available anywhere else in any way. And with it being such a late release in a flagging toyline, it is easily one of the most (if not the most) expensive Beastformers items to obtain on the secondary market.
Notes
[edit]- It is unknown what Salmomancer's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been. He was slated to be released in one of twelve "motorized vehicle" (aka Battlecruiser) sets. The Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalogue shows him on the blue-and-white "rhino"-type vehicle, but it's entirely possible he would have come with a different one; this assortment never made it to packaging sample stage.
