Somewhere over there to the left. You just missed him.

Conceptual history

[edit]
Well, this is another nice mess you've gotten me into.

Silverstreak's journey from being an alternate color scheme and name for Bluestreak to a character in his own right was a bumpy one.

Originally, the 1982 Diaclone Fairlady Z toy that was the basis for Bluestreak was intended to be released in 1984's The Transformers in its original silver and blue deco, this color scheme being the basis for the character's name.<ref>{{#if: Blue Streak must have been blue in the early stages. The painted art on the original toy box shows him as having blue components, even though the toy is grey. So I worked with whatever I was given, even though Hasbro apparently changed color scheme later. |"Blue Streak must have been blue in the early stages. The blue deco would be homaged multiple times over the years as an alternate color scheme for Bluestreak, such as in the Universe, Binaltech and Kre-O toylines—albeit never on the original Fairlady Z mold. It was also prominently used as Bluestreak's initial appearance in IDW Publishing's 2005 Generation 1 continuity, first appearing in 2006's Stormbringer miniseries.

Silverstreak and Bluestreak. Or Bluestreak and Silverstreak. Or Bluesilver and Streakstreak.

Between 2003 and 2010, new Hasbro toys of Bluestreak were released under the name of "Silverstreak", due to Hasbro having lost the trademark on the name Bluestreak. As a result, during the 2009-2011 IDW series The Transformers, the character started appearing under this name with no comment—along with switching from the Diaclone blue deco to his G1 silver deco. This, coupled with an apparently erroneous<ref>Apocryphally, supported by comments from IDW editor Andy Schmidt, likely in IDW forum comments which have since vanished with site overhauls.</ref> appearance of "blue Bluestreak" as a supporter of Bumblebee when he was supposed to have left to join up with Hot Rod caused some fans to assume that Bluestreak (the blue one) and Silverstreak (the silver one) were supposed to be separate characters in IDW's universe... until the subsequent Ironhide ministeries showed flashbacks to the blue character, using the name Silverstreak!

Things got even more confusing in 2015 with the release of Masterpiece MP-18B Bluestreak. Referred to simply as a mysterious robot resembling Streak (Bluestreak's Japanese name), this toy appeared to be making official the idea of the blue deco as its own, separate character... until Masterpiece Spinout's bio established that he was in fact the original Streak under the influence of his Diaclone-universe counterpart.

In 2016, the blue Combiner Wars Bluestreak toy was used as a basis for the appearance of the Shattered Glass incarnation of Bluestreak. Outside of the Generation 1 continuity family, the original Diaclone blue deco has also been used for the Aligned incarnation of Bluestreak in the 2013 Transformers: The Covenant of Primus novel and his 2014 Beast Hunters Cyberverse toy. Other parts of the Aligned continuity family depict him in the more typical silver and black deco, however. While not as explicitly based on the original Diaclone deco, the Movie continuity family's Speed Stars toyline also featured a blue-colored Bluestreak.

Eventually, the 2022 Buzzworthy Bumblebee "Autobot Silverstreak" toy was released, combining the "Silverstreak" name with the blue deco for the first time since Hasbro regained the "Bluestreak" trademark. This use of both a separate name and color scheme from Bluestreak, combined with comments from Hasbro designer Mark Maher about "celebrating" that "every character is unique",<ref>{{#if: I have vowed to try and make every character release different then the last, especially for those types of characters that utilize the same mold. I feel like every character is unique and to celebrate that fact, I gave ol Silverstreak here the bumper. |"I have vowed to try and make every character release different then the last, especially for those types of characters that utilize the same mold. Toys

[edit]
Only the toys explicitly intended as Silverstreak are listed here. However, as Silverstreak is essentially the blue deco of Bluestreak made into a separate character, any of the prior blue Bluestreak toys could also be used to represent him. For those, see Bluestreak (G1)/toys.

Part of the cross-franchise Buzzworthy Bumblebee subline, Legacy "Autobot Silverstreak" is a redeco of Earthrise Smokescreen with Earthrise Bluestreak's head in blue and silver "inspired by the animated series The Transformers."<ref name = "Pulse"/> Sure buddy. He converts from a robot to a car dimly approximating a [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Nissan 280ZX|{{#if:Datsun 280ZX Turbo|Datsun 280ZX Turbo|Nissan 280ZX}}]] in 13 steps.
Legacy Silverstreak would receive an official Hasbro Pulse pre-order on April 1 (no joke intended). Unlike previous figures in the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line, Silverstreak featured windowless packaging.
Silverstreak utilizes the "Mark 1" version of the Earthrise Datsun mold before a running change retool enacted a variety of quality control fixes. As such, there are multiple reports of the clear plastic used for the roof being extremely fragile, which particularly affects the hinge that connects the roof to the rest of the figure.<ref name="buzzworthy2">Reports of the roof hinge on Buzzworthy Bumblebee Silverstreak cracking.</ref>

Notes

[edit]
May or may not hate bugs.
  • You read that correctly: Bluestreak is silver, and Silverstreak is blue. This is notable because it's really funny.
  • Silverstreak, the guy whose deco first appeared in the Transformers brand on a Spychanger in 2004, is also the only Generations Datsun whose bio invokes the Generation 1 cartoon. Up to and including Earthrise Bluestreak. This is also really funny.
  • Bluestreak was named after a term for talking a lot, reflective of the character's personality. Conversely, a silver streak can refer to someone being incredibly lucky.
