Skybat

Skybat is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Commander of the Laser Beast Corps' Air Force Battalion and member of the Subterranean Demon Clan, Skybat's (スカイバット Sukaibatto) loyalty to Emperor Tigerburn is unquestioned. His loyalty to everyone else, though... well, some have their doubts. Secretive and suspicious, he's always got a hint of a smile on his face that makes everyone wonder just what's going on in his head. And with his excellent hearing and hypnotic powers, it's unclear just how much he knows that others don't know he knows... a real creep, that Skybat.

While at the low end of physical strength for a Laser Beast, his other skills more than compensate. He's practically a living radar unit, capable of detecting movement in a wide field even in the dark, letting him avoid attacks and set up his own counters easily. His hypnotic powers are further enhanced by his Sound Pick Laser (サウンドピックレーザー Saundo Pikku Rēzā) MVP Weapon, which can not only temporarily deafen a target, but shut down synapses and leave them unable to move on their own and even more vulnerable to hypnotic control. And of course, there's his command of the Battle Eagle Battlecruiser; that machine's gravitational powers and weaponry making him more than a match for most opponents.

Skybat resided in the Laser Beasts' underground city while their society grew more and more cold-hearted. Legend of the Three Wise Ones He participated in the invasion of the surface and the war with the Beastformers who lived there, at one point reporting to Tigerburn that Bistoram was receiving reinforcements from Yutoranta and Rabbihos. Skybat was part of the Laser Beast army that fought the Beastformers over control of Beast. LG51 Doublecross Prologue

Skybat took part in the final battle between the Beastformers and the Laser Beasts on Beast in 2023. He rode the Battle Eagle at one point. While fighting Flykick, Skybat watched as a portal opened to reveal 2021-based Transformers and their allies fleeing the end of the Legends World. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

In 2038, the then-peaceful Beast was invaded by Galvatron II's Decepticons. Skybat was part of the joint Beastformer-Laser Beast alliance that fought against the invaders. He cheerfully worked with fellow chiropteran Devilbat. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 3

Released in the post-Transformers "RPG"-themed portion of Beastformers, Skybat is an anthropomorphic, hunchbacked lump-nosed bat in high-tech blue armor. His left arm ends in a strange curved double-blade. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

He was only available packed in with the Battle Eagle Battlecruiser, a chariot that can be ridden by any Laser Beast or Beastformer toy. Neither item was sold in the Hasbro Battle Beasts line, and being late entries in Beastformers, they command pretty high prices on the secondary market.

Notes

• It is unknown what Skybat's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been. He was slated to be released in one of twelve "motorized vehicle" (aka Battlecruiser) sets. The Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalogue shows him on the yellow-and-white eagle-type vehicle (the mold he did come with in Beastformers), but it's entirely possible he would have come with a different one; this assortment never made it to packaging sample stage. (The red eagle deco that is 95% the Beastformers deco Skybat came with is shown with Jeerermonkey.)
