Maybe it's like a mushroom and extracts metals from the soil?

Space daikons (宇宙大根 uchū daikon) are like daikons known on Earth but likely not from Earth, although they do grow well on Gaia. Transformers can eat them.

At the Maximal Gaia base, Apache maintained his own organic vegetable garden where he grew space daikons. One day that began well, he picked an ugly space daikon and, still respectful of its nutritious qualities, decided to use it to make dinner that night. However, when he reached his personal room, he found the place trashed. He accused Tasmania Kid of the vandalism and although Tasmania Kid was innocent, the youngster had to admit that his history of pranks made him a likely suspect. One such prank was raiding and consuming Apache's entire vegetable garden. One thing led to another and at the end of the day Apache had saved Tasmania Kid from the Cyborg Beasts. Their bond strengthened, Apache offered Tasmania Kid some of the space daikon meal he was going to prepare. Tasmania Kid hesitantly admitted he'd peed on Apache's space daikons and his argument that it was still organic did not prevent another fight. Recover the Bonds Lost!
