Different personalities

[edit]

Ok, I started to re-write this to say how the Japanese and the IDW books each created a different personality for this guy... when I realized something: Japanese release - "Insecticon (japan)" a forest warrior who's a master of surprise and US release - Beetle a reclusive interrigator that's only with the Preds cause they let him get his sick jollies. With the IDW release we now have what is basically two seperate characters sharing the same toy, right? This is the same as with Apache and B'Boom or Bighorn and Bonecrusher now so they should be split on to seperate pages. Yes? --ZacWilliam 01:32, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

That seems consistent with our approach this far. The character already had a distinct name in Japan, so... -Derik 02:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. One of Zac's cited examples, Bighorn, is a redeco of Bonecrusher from a subsequent toyline, which I don't think is a case of "same toy, two characters." As for the other, Apache and B'Boom may be identical, but Apache was also released as part of a different series.
I don't think having a different personality in Japan is enough to create a separate character when it comes to Beast Wars. Don't a lot of characters in Beast Wars have different personalities in Japan, thanks to the wacky dub of the cartoon, and the manga having things like Pikachu-trap? --KilMichaelMcC 12:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. We've said before that the focus of this wiki is on character rather than toy. And, they are two seperate very different characters with different names even. That should trump the fact that they just happen to share a toy, and make them two different entries. --ZacWilliam 13:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
So are Laserwave and Marvel Comics Shockwave going to get two different pages now? --ItsWalky 13:36, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I think there's a line between "two takes on the same character" and "two different characters." It's a common sense thing. Rattrap and Rat-achu are very different in portrayle but are still the same character, just two takes on it. It's the same classic case of Comic vs Cartoon Grimlock: quite different versions of the same guy. Where as God Ginrai and Powermaster Optimus Prime are two different guys who share a toy. Thus the seperate pages. I'm just arguing that Beetle vs Insecticon seems to be the later case IMO rather than the former. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ZacWilliam (talkcontribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
I think the separate name is at least somewhat interesting... but lets wait until they profile Panther to make a decision, see if he's Ravage. -Derik 18:36, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
