3-part system
[edit]A blank represents 2 parts of the 3-part protoform system
A blank is made of something besides a protoform? What's the other thing? --fleb 13:35, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- I'm guessing the three parts are assumed to be pod, protoform, and spark.--RosicrucianTalk 14:15, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Shouldn't programming be included in there too? --Ascendron 14:17, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Yes, I would have thought the components would be protoform, spark and datatrax. But this is Derik at work, so I dunno... - Chris McFeely 16:20, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

- Um... searches memory protoform, protomatter and spark, iirc. A protoform is described as consisting of these 3 elements in... the 2007 movie guide I think?
- The logic seems to be that the physical 'frame' is what's properly termed a protoform, and the 'gooey quicksilver' stuff is protomatter, which can be formed into pretty much anything. The Movie guide WAS pretty explicit about establishing protomatter as 'its own thing,' which I approve of since Animated was... pretty aggressive about using it. -Derik 16:35, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Also, I choose to take that "this is derik, so..." comment as a compliment.
- "This is Derik, so presumably he's referencing something specific." -Derik 16:35, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Of course, there's also "This is Derik, so this could be an overly meta-referenced synthesis of ideas." Case in point with this one, I'd have to check my movie guide but I don't think it acknowledges the concept of Blanks.--RosicrucianTalk 17:07, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Well why would it? -Derik 19:59, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- What I'm saying here is that using movie concepts as evidence in sourcing out an article regarding a concept which has no movie equivalent is approaching the "overly meta-referenced synthesis of ideas" we all know and love.--RosicrucianTalk 20:05, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- And what I'm saying is that "Gooey Quicksilver + Mechanical frame + spark" has existed since Beast Wars-- this merely put a formal name to the 3 components. -Derik 05:41, 21 July 2009 (EDT)

[edit]"The reference didn't make it into the finished episode, possibly because producers realized that calling your main critic "a soulless thing" was perhaps a bit tacky."
Does this fall under "speculation?" After all, we don't know if they thought it tacky, decided not to give her the satisfaction, decided to let bygones be bygones, the legal dept. shut them down, or any other in a myriad of reasons. Skywarp 15:01, 20 August 2013 (EDT)
