Talk:Daniel Witwicky (G1)

I have some issues with the apocrypha section, including the part where the article speaks for the fandom (which was already present before being moved to that section) and the new unsourced claim that Daniel was forcibly introduced by Hasbro in order to try to bring in younger fans as the early fans aged and moved on. If phrased as speculation, I think that would be okay, but as-is it is way too strongly stated. If there is documentation of this, such as in one of Rik's interviews with production staff, it should be cited. --Steve-o 17:21, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I'll rephrase that a bit. The inclusion of Daniel and Wheelie, and the reasons, have been cited before, but the original citations have been somewhat lost over the years and may be part of the 'fandom myth'. If anyone has the original info here, though, please feel free to specify it. -- Vanguard

Walky, any time a 'new young character' is introduced into any series, it's to bring in younger audiences and get interest. This is a universal television and marketing constant. Unless you can prove that Hasbro did not have this in mind when it was done in 1986, maybe you should have left the supposition as I had stated it in the appropriate Apocrypha section? -- Vanguard

If it's so very common, it's not important to be worth mentioning, and is assumed. But for all we know, Daniel's inclusion was Sunbow's decision. Until someone can prove it either way, supposition does not belong here. "Hasbro wanted a young character" will not be put in his entry without credited proof. --ItsWalky 18:13, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't think that the new text that appears to link Daniel's inclusion to the cancelling of the cartoon and a "slow and lingering death-spiral for the entire franchise" belongs there. --KilMichaelMcC 18:02, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree. --ItsWalky 18:13, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Cute, adorble death-spiral? -Derik23:20, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Daniel's Parentage

[edit]

Theis struck me as odd readign that Buster and Jesse were Daniel's parents. (The coloring book section) Buster soudned kinda familiar- but I didn't think Jesse ever put in a non-Marvel-comic appearance. So I looked it up. http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~sstoneb/tf/books/coloring/lost-treasure.html

The observation comes from Steve's page. He says that looks liek Jesse.

...am I crazy, or is that totally Carly's animation model without the headband? -Derik 08:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Carly had much shorter hair. Shoulder-length. Since the artist is Frank Springer, who drew Jesse similarly in the original Marvel Comics limited series, it seems to be Jesse to me. --ItsWalky 12:18, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Man, what was I on? That's clearly Carly. Carly wears a headband, a blouse, and a vest, all of which the coloring book Mrs. Witwicky is wearing. Clearly in this alternate universe, Buster stole his older brother's lady. --ItsWalky 07:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
When I think of Jesse, i think of her jailbait t-shirt number. I think it's the vest which is makign me think Carly. I'll have to go back and look at source... (Of course, Buster is drawn like Spike, so) -Derik 15:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Headmaster Toy

[edit]

Just wondering where this bit of info came from? I'de never come across it until I read this wiki, and it seems a bit off that this is the only place it's mentioned (admittedly, I haven't exactly looked for confirmation). Gouki 07:31, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

How's that? --Monzo 08:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, that's good enough for me, I guess. Did it come from a guidebook or something, can you tell me which one? Gouki 08:23, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
If you click on the picture, the informational text below it says it comes from the Japanese Transformers: Generations guide book. Which, indeed, is where I scanned it from. --Monzo 08:37, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Kiss Players

[edit]

I think I love Kiss Players.

I also think the KP page needs to have an ep/story/manga list on it so we can start putting storylinks it, because the scope of material it's covering is beginning to outpace a simple 'kiss players' link.

I have a few things to say: First, Kiss Players doesn't have a cartoon, thank the Lord Almighty. Second, We barely have information on what went on in that sickening abomination to Japanese Transfans, and, finally, you DISGUST me. GTFO of the Transfandom, PERVERT. Dynamus Prime 19:18, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Kiss Players is pretty crappy, but that comment's a bit out of line, sir. Vacation time for you. --ItsWalky 19:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Animated

[edit]

I think Animated Daniel has shown up enough times to warrant his own page, rather than referenced only in his G1 self's trivia. --ItsWalky 17:29, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree. I was considering proposing the same thing.--RosicrucianTalk 17:32, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
He hasn't been actually NAMED in the show yet, has he? What would we then call him? "Kid in outfit Bootsy Collins wouldn't be caught dead in"? --M Sipher 17:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
We name it Daniel Witwicky (Animated), the do a note that he hasn't been officially named, and place it the nameless things category. Trust me, at Wookieepedia, we do this all the time. -- SFH 17:42, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, let's go!

Redirect/Disambiguation

[edit]

So, put in {{disambig3|Daniel}} or alter the current disambig? Same thing asked for Animated Daneil and Sparkplug. --Lonegamer78 02:37, 17 March 2010 (EDT)

Stasis?

[edit]

Where was it said that Daniel was put in stasis after TFTM? The article claims it's from the KP timeline, but it isn't there in the translation. —Interrobang 19:58, 29 July 2011 (EDT)

I posed this somewhere else a good while back and never got an answer. - Chris McFeely 20:03, 29 July 2011 (EDT)
Evan1975 added it, so I suppose I'll ask him. —Interrobang 20:07, 29 July 2011 (EDT)
It's from the Kiss Players Autrooper cardboard tray's Encyclopedia section. Under "Daniel", it says "A young American boy whom Hot Rodimus befriended on Earth before the Unicron War. When Transformers and humanity were at odds, he escaped to space with his father Spike and others. There, he was involved in an accident and is currently in cold sleep." --Swift 16:14, 19 February 2012 (EST)

Expansion?

[edit]

I think Daniel's US cartoon section could stand to be expanded a little. I realize we cover all his appearances already, but some of the write-ups feel like a breakdown of someone of Optimus Prime's prominence... maybe a little more curtailed than necessary? Just a thought, anyway. --Monzo 13:16, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Masterpiece ID

[edit]

So the katakana on the back of the box reads "Spike" (スパイク) under the pic of the transformed suit. Nowt about Daniel. - Chris McFeely (talk) 17:11, 25 December 2014 (EST)

エクセルスートのスパイクも変形。 = "Ekuseru Suuto no Supaiku mo henkei." = "Spike's Excel Suit also transforms." That's all the box image caption says, which isn't wrong since both of the suits worn by Spike and Daniel in the movie belonged to Spike. The instructions contain a "bio" of sorts for the Exosuit itself, rather than for the person inside the suit, which mentions both Daniel and Spike as examples of people who have worn it. The toy itself is identified as just "Exo-Suit", but the head of the user is definitely more Daniel-like than Spike-like. And the cartoon screencap that accompanies the write up in the instructions shows Daniel as the one in the suit rather than Spike. --Sabrblade (talk) 19:22, 25 December 2014 (EST)

MP1 Black Convoy Dan's exo suit?

[edit]

I just came across some (poorly) scans of the MP-1B Black Convoy comic + the last pages of the legends Manga days ago and I was thinking, shouldn't we add in the /Toys/ section this toy saying that it doubles as a exo-suit worn by Dan? or a controlled bodies like the ones from Binatech? -MahXyme/MahXymal (talk) 20:48, 19 December 2021 (EST)
