Talk:Drift
So, guess I'm gonna put this to the rest of you, then. Should this redirect to the Armada episode or the IDW character? My vote is for the character, in light of the fact that he's far more recent, not to mention a major (ish) player in IDW's current (ish) storyline. Plus, my opinion is character over episode title any day. And no, I don't think "Drift sucks" or any other variation thereof is a good reason not to redirect to him, especially given some of the fan reaction to Armada. -- Dark T Zeratul 04:44, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- You may be right on redirecting to a character rather than an episode. As for your last comment, well, you should consider that Armada is far less hated now and that most of the prominent members of this wiki either like Armada or have no problem with it. By contrast, many senior members of this wiki have mocked Drift for all he's worth. --FFN 05:00, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- I don't deny it. I just don't think it's a valid reason for not redirecting to him when he's probably the more common search topic. -- Dark T Zeratul 05:09, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- Character is more prominent than one of Armada's more-or-less-arbitrary stupid-ass one-word titles.
- I don't like one word titles. In a show that's had close to 1000 stories they're just being OBNOXIOUS, and they tend to have only a vague or abstract relation to the plot of the episode. Like "Swoop" -Derik 05:51, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- I'm with Derik and Zeratul. I don't like the character Drift either, but he is the the more prominent of the two meanings, and our likes or dislikes don't enter into that determination. --Jeysie 05:59, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- Prominence is a matter of opinion. I'm of the opinion that one of the more important episodes of Armada is a more prominent thing than some new writer's shiny little fancharacter... and I'm not even an Armada fan. Still, this is one of the very few episodes I actually remember. --Detour 08:05, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- More well-known then. Like or hate, IMHO people are more likely to associate "Drift" with the character now than a single episode from an old series that isn't very well-liked. (I know I wouldn't even know "Drift" was the name of any episode if it wasn't for this Wiki.) There's such a matter as having to step back from your personal tastes and try to look at things objectively. --Jeysie 08:20, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- According to the help page, "Drift (disambiguation)" can be created even if there are only two links if it can't be decided which is more prominent, so that's an option. - Starfield 09:12, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- Detour, when you reverted it back to the episode you said, "let's support the better of the two." I'd hardly call that an opinion on "prominence." I get it, you really really don't like Drift. That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. That doesn't mean actively working against the article. Hell, I would argue that the sheer fact he's so heavily disliked makes the article even MORE important. -- Dark T Zeratul 15:24, 14 April 2009 (EDT)

At this point, I would concur that most folks typing "Drift" into the search field are expecting to arrive at the character, not the episode.--RosicrucianTalk 15:32, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
I think Drift is a horrible character, yet I say that the redirect should go to him. For better or worse, he's far better-known. Hell, any other Drift likely would be better-known than the episode, and I include the Japanese name for Armada Dirt Boss in that. --M Sipher 18:49, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
- If Dirt Boss is named Drift in Japan, I might support a Disambiguation page for those 2.5 options. -Derik 21:50, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
