CONTINUITY FAMILY
[edit]We need a place to put these guys! The story behind them doesn't fit into anything else, which is no surprise, since it's an entirely music-based "war" story that begins in the 70s. But I thiiiiiiiiiiiink we should put them under Aligned for very flimsy reasons. 1) They're Aligned molds, which is the strongest reason. 2) In the backstory, Bumblebee loses his voice. 3) Vehicons. Ditto backstory. Anyone have any counterarguments? --ItsWalky (talk) 12:47, 20 July 2014 (EDT)
- Well, other continuity famalies use Aligned molds, and there's also Animated molds. Bumblebee being voiceless is somewhat of a staple on TF. (If anything, I think they were going for live-action movie Bumblebee, what with the whole "I wish to stay with the tour" line.) And Vehicons are in a variety of continuities, but they did originate from a part of the Primax cluster. Escargon (talk) 12:59, 20 July 2014 (EDT)
- I'd been thinking Aligned for pretty much those exact same reasons. G1 would be the only reasonable alternative, and that's not a family where 'Bee ever loses his voice or where Vehicons (in the post-BM sense of being anonymous grunts rather than dumb drones) are a thing. The backstory is unmistakably Binder-of-Revelation-y. Jalaguy (talk) 13:15, 20 July 2014 (EDT)
Well there's other things in there that don't match up with what we know of the Aligned characters (Arcee being Optimus' girlfriend, Soundwave being snarky, and Ratbat being a prodigy of Soundwave instead of a senator). Escargon (talk) 19:58, 20 July 2014 (EDT)
Why can't this be a continuity of it's own, not grouped in Aligned or G1 or any other established family, given how unique the story is? --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 21:53, 20 July 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, I've been thinking this backstory is so nutty (in a good way) that it'd probably be safest to call it its own special little continuity family altogether. --Sabrblade (talk) 00:00, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
- I am not sure one box set of toys can be its own continuity family. I mean, you kind of have to have, like, more than one story to be a "family" of continuities, and all it's got is a single booklet. Its own continuity sans the family part, most certainly. That was never in doubt. --ItsWalky (talk) 00:35, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
- Well we don't have call it a continuity family to put the characters in articles of their own with (KOU) parentheticals. --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 08:07, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
- It occurs to me that the logo in the instructions might be a clue. Or it'll just be the new logo they put on everything, I dunno. I guess we'll see in two or three days. --ItsWalky (talk) 00:39, 21 July 2014 (EDT)

The tour shirt has Mt. Saint Hilary. I'd say that's conclusive enough to make it G1. Escargon (talk) 15:06, 1 August 2014 (EDT)
I'm not going to get in the middle of all this, but I'll just say that when Hasbro sent Tim and me the style guides and background info and all the other resources so we could brainstorm the merch for We Love Fine's side of things, there were no designations or limitations on what continuities or universes we could draw from. When I wrote the tour list for the back of the shirt, I mostly stuck to G1 locations because I figured older G1 fans were the main target audience for this niche thing (how fucking wrong I was). When we came up with the t-shirt and print designs, Tim and I were operating under a "what if the G1 characters were rock stars" mentality. The Hasbro material borrowed from a lot of different places, so I dunno what their official word is or even if they HAVE an official word on continuity. It's a silly amalgam of everything, so I don't know what to tell you; just that Tim and I had G1 on the brain when we did our little corner of this promotion. --DrSpengler (talk) 15:16, 1 August 2014 (EDT)
Well, now that they've got an event in the Legends game, I'd say they're placed in the G1 continuity family like everything else in that game. (Yes, I know, they did a Shattered Glass event but SG is still labelled as Primax and thus within the G1 family) --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 17:51, 19 February 2015 (EST)
- Anyone have any other views on this? --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 16:44, 25 March 2015 (EDT)
My suggestion: List them as G1/Primax and add a note to the effect of "merch/materials suggest G1, background suggests Aligned, they're under G1 because of Legends and how we needed to put them somewhere". There's also the fact that G1 is officially several different continuities, while Aligned has the whole "squint test" thing; KoU doesn't fit under any existing interpretation of the Aligned continuity. If only the club were to publish a story that makes a passing reference to Spandex 714.23 Epsilon, this would all be solved.--RosicrucianTalk 18:00, 25 March 2015 (EDT)
- Love it!
- This MAY have been one of the details I was supposed to address in The Complete AllSpark Almanac, I don't quite remember. I guess we'll all find out together if/when someone does the translations. If I DIDN'T, I'll throw it on the to do pile.-Jimsorenson (talk) 00:11, 26 March 2015 (EDT)
What came with the toys, fiction-wise?
[edit]I don't own the toys, so I have to ask before I write up the fiction section. Did the pamphlet with the timeline of the band's history and all the backstory come with the toys? Was it released officially? I have to know this before I summarize any information from the bible materials sent to Tim and I. --DrSpengler (talk) 09:34, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
- It was posted on The Allspark. --Cr85747 (talk) 04:36, 10 November 2014 (EST)
- Thanks!--DrSpengler (talk) 14:24, 10 November 2014 (EST)
