Talk:Pack-in flyer
If the title itself is "improperly" capitalized, shouldn't our title reflect that? The "title" of that one is, letter for letter, "The battle is far from over!", quotation marks included. -- Repowers 05:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wrong capitalization yes, quotations no.
- IIRC from the 'Deceptacon Raiders' article, 'wrong spelling is still officially wrong,' we don't correct for it. (That article is spelled correctly only because the spelling was corrected on the DVD's, so we got a more-correct but still official title.)
- As for not including the Quotes... I got nothing. It feels wrong? -Derik 07:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm simply following the precedent set by Have the Decepticons defeated us once and for all?. If you want to decapitalize them, knock yourself out. —Interrobang 14:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
It's not actually a pack-in-flier per se but does anyone have any info on/remember the TF:TM mail-out flyer that went to people who'd ordered from Hasbro? I forget the EXACT details, but it was basically a big hype for the movie and the movie toys and maybe was the one with the Hot Rod go-kart? What was that one called, and do we have a page on it? (that one really fucked with my head as a kid because it said the Chosen Autobot Hero could be anyone... EVEN ME. Wowowowowow!) I would suggest it fits somewhat into the S.T.A.R.S. Flyer continuity. -hx 14:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- This would be a good place to mention it. The way this page is going, it might need to be split up at some point, or re-named, but for now it's a good catch-all.
- I've pretty much reached the end of what's in my stash, which is too bad -- I've never heard of this thing and would like to see it. Also, I have no info on those iron-on patches they used to put in with Mini-Vehicles; those ought to be mentioned here as well. -- Repowers 15:01, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- I wish I knew where my copy was, but I got it as a kid and I'm pretty sure it's long since thrown out. Also, while I'm thinking about it, there probably really ought to be a more generalized link to the decoy article in the appropriate space, or the creation of a larger umbrella article on "pack-in materials" that covers the various flyers, catalogs, decoys, patches, mini-spies, comics, etc. (or maybe that'd work better as a category?) -hx 15:06, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm strongly in favor of an article instead of, or at least alongside, a category. Categories tend to get bloated, and they aren't sorted in any meaningful way. (See article toy vs. the category, for my favorite example.) This article's kinda going that way regardless at the moment. The flyers might need to be on their own page, since some of them have an actual story component. -- Repowers 15:23, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'd go for a detailed article alongside a category. I mean, there's a lot of stuff that could be considered "pack-in materials", as above, and a lot of it I don't think we even have articles on yet (catalogs come to mind). -hx 16:05, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, we don't, do we? -- Repowers 23:18, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]On what basis did we decide that these things were called "pack-in flyers" instead of something else? And while I'm at it how did we decide to call the cross-sell inserts catalogs? To my knowledge these things don't have any well-established names, although I'd guess Hasbro has specific terminology for them that we may not be privy to. I'd like to see both articles either cite something sorta-offical to justify their titles, or be reworded to make it clear that they go by many names in the fandom and we just sort of picked one arbitrarily. --Steve-o 02:29, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I just went by the name that Jackpot used when he started writing up the S.T.A.R.R.S. stuff (IIRC he called them "toy pack-in flyers", which seemed a bit too long for an article title.) If you've got a better name, I'm certainly open to it. I've always called the catalogs "catalogs", so much so that I'm startled to realize anyone might have called them something else. YMMV. -- Repowers 03:16, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, for the good old days...
[edit]I wish Hasbro would go back to selling discontinued and not-available-in-stores toys via mail (and/or online, though online would probably be cheaper). I had gotten all three Omnibots as well as several G.I. Joe toys through Hasbro Direct.
Well, atleast there's always the chance for a redeco. Zadok Rox 14:43, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
