Underage native guide is a stereotype dating back to T.E. Lawrence's travelogues. While it's true he didn't offer to sell them cigarettes in broken english- he hadn't had an opportunity to. I think my problem with the line is that it implies that whitey is somehow exempt from looking foolish and stupid and stereotypical. Good gods, there's the history teacher, jock Trent, Tuturro playing "officious government prick" to the extreme, Sam's oblivious upper-middle-class parents, the dorks in Maggie's hacker team... and of course Sam, stuttering geek. Three different names

Just to sort-of revive the point Nevermore rose above: I was just perusing the ROTF: Movie Universe book, and in it, Epps is given the first name Julius. Interesting fact yielded from googling - while Robert Epps has loads of hits, most of them used in descriptions of Tyrese's role in ROTF, the Top Trumps wiki (Top Trumps being a multi-franchise UK collectable card game, I don't know if you all have that in the US) notes that Epps was named Julius on the card released for the first movie back in '07.
