Talk:Roller (G1)

I've got the resources for Roller (There's a surprisingly large amount.)

You x-bob- you say Roller was upgraded in Battlestars? Was that as Powered Bomber? (That's one of the questions Iw as goignt o put to doug dlin...) Was PB ever confirmed to be roller? Did he have a media appearance? (I'd settle for a photo battle scene from Star Convoy's box if such a thing exists...) -71.210.178.213 01:01, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Who's Powered Bomber? do you mean God/Apex Bomber if so then that guys not roller.01:21, 27 March 2006 (UTC)~

He said Battlestars, which means Star Convoy. And yeah, as far as I know, an upgraded version of Roller comes with Star Convoy. (Big and motorized!) --ItsWalky 01:41, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Right, and I've heard the term Powered Bobmewr mentioned, not sure if it's right. Is rolelr JUST the blue drive unit? Does he have a differet name when you attach the gray ramps and gun emplacement for Micromaster Hot Rod? Do you know, or should I ask doug what the instructions say? -Derik 01:44, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

IMO Apex Bomber shouldn't bee in this article P.S. An alternate name for Battlestars Roller is Microcarrier X-BoB58 02:03, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Re: Apex Bomber --http://www.tfu.info/2003/Autobot/ApexPrime/apexprime.htm Apex Armor is formed by combining binary-bonded Optimus Prime with his trailer and armored roller drone. -Derik 02:13, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Good point: Apex Bomber isn't nessicarily the same as God Bomber. I'm pretty sure Apex is supposed to be a remote controlled drone, just like Roller was too. He COULD be considered an upgraded version, especially since the original would have been lost after one or another of Prime's deaths, since he's actually a part of Prime, presumably there's no spark or anything to consider.

On an unrelated note, shouldn't tghe portion that mentions that Barelroller's japanese name is Roller also mention that Roller's Japanese name is, if I recall correctly, Buggy?

Star Convoy's Roller

[edit]

Isn't the flat blue thing with caterpillar that come with Star Convoy also Roller? shouldn't it be mentionned?

Its "name" is Tread Unit, I assume it's what was being talked about further up this page, and I don't know whether there's any reason to actually think it's supposed to be an incarnation of Roller. It was seemingly referred to as "a version of Roller" in the early fandom, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was literal. Probably, with the dearth of actual Battlestars material, there's no definitive word on who or what Tread Unit is, but maybe we should ask...SPENGLER! -LV 00:59, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Robotech Connection

[edit]

Not that I actually care, but Roller also got re-used as the “GN XM-3ØØ2 Low-Gravity Vehicle” in Macross and a never-named vehicle in Robotech. If you were to mention this, it might get a little more traffic to your site from Google. Just sayin.’ 174.25.16.197 03:04, 6 May 2011 (EDT)A REDDSON

Macross came out two years before that toy did. -- Semysane 03:41, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

Tread Unit - again

[edit]

Okay, The following appears on this page: ===Return of Convoy=== * '''Star Convoy''' (Powered Master, 1991, 2005) **''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-372''' : This toy from the ''[[Return of Convoy (franchise)|Return of Convoy]]'' line included an upgraded Roller named '''Tread Unit''', patterned after a tracked ballistic missile carrier. ::*''[http://www.tfu.info/1991/Cybertron/StarConvoy/starconvoy.htm More information on Tread Unit (with Star Convoy) at TFU.info]'' But on the Apex Bomber talk page, Derik states "Doug says no, Tread unit ain't Roller. (I thought we excised all thsoe references from the wiki...". I realize that that is just a talk page and may have been contradicted in the ensuing three years, so I thought I'd bring the question up on this talk page before removing the section from the Roller page. --Khajidha 09:11, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

Legends

[edit]

I feel like someone should draw attention to the fact that Legends Roller (due, in part, to his possession of only one truly free-spinning pair of wheels), is positively atrocious at actually rolling... Teaformer (talk) 12:46, 2 January 2014 (EST)

UW Roller

[edit]

Was there any discussion anywhere about moving UW Roller to this page? At the moment I still think he'd be better on IDW Roller's page. They did use IDW Roller as his pre-Unicron-reformatting body and he was sapient enough to feel angry at being abandoned. Presumably he's a version of IDW Roller that was hanging around with Optimus just slightly off screen. Omegatron (talk) 17:08, 27 November 2016 (EST)

He is pretty explicitly buggy Roller. He got lost between dimensions because he was in subspace with the trailer when Optimus died and nobody else bothered to recover him. When Optimus is resurrected as Star Convoy, Roller becomes the Micro Carrier because Sakamoto just canonized that bit of fanon as he is wont to do. Saix (talk) 17:17, 27 November 2016 (EST)
Still, I think it feels pretty wrong to not at least have some of the information mirrored on IDW Roller's page since the whole character up to that last minute reveal was patterned - both physically and in backstory, to the point you could easily see this as a last-minute change not originally planned for - after that character. - Chris McFeely (talk) 17:32, 27 November 2016 (EST)
Keep the toy on both pages and have a Legends fiction section on IDW Roller's page that links to this one? --Riptide (talk) 18:54, 27 November 2016 (EST)
I think the Notes would be a fine section to explain things like inspiration and "whoops, we were all fooled again"-type comments. As has been stated in other places, Wandering Roller was explicitly an Autobot before that faction was formed as we know it in the IDW books, so having any kind of fiction representing WR as an IDW Roller doesn't feel right, either. Magaroja (talk) 10:27, 28 November 2016 (EST)
Went ahead and took a little stab at it. Magaroja (talk) 10:37, 28 November 2016 (EST)
Should we have a short note on this page as well?--Khajidha (talk) 10:54, 28 November 2016 (EST)

Apex Bomber

[edit]

Should we merge that here, or does AVP saying that "in some universes Apex Bomber was indeed an upgraded version of Roller" leave it open for there to be some where he doesn't? And, if so, have we seen any? And, if not, is it worth keeping separate?--Khajidha (talk) 10:57, 28 November 2016 (EST)

The marvel comics still had roller in his traditional form after Optimus's power master upgrade. Omegatron (talk) 16:34, 30 November 2016 (EST)
Last year abates reverted a merger on the grounds that AVP said "some" not "all" universes. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 16:39, 30 November 2016 (EST)
Okay. Just making sure it had at least been discussed. --Khajidha (talk) 22:31, 30 November 2016 (EST)
