Talk:Sky High (Micromaster)
Umm, sorry if I come off as impertinent, but why are we calling Generations Flanker as a homage to Sky High instead of, you know, Flanker? Generations Flanker is not an exact match to either Sky High or Flanker, and I know that like Payload and a bunch of others they rarely keep the same name as the obscure Micromasters they homage, but between the name, the alternate mode (two tail-wings on both the Flankers, one on Sky High), the general green colour in jet mode (both Flankers are differing shades of green, and Sky High is white), and the position of some kibble like the ones on the shoulder and the wheel-arms look more similar to the other Flanker. I mean, Generations Flanker is not an exact match with the original Flanker, but other than the chest shape, it's a closer match to it than to Sky High. I thought there was a designer's note somewhere, but why are we so sure that Generations Flanker is in fact Sky High?
Also, if we're going solely by appearance, |Venin falls under Venom (G1), even though the colours more closely resemble that of Bugly (G1)'s Pretender shell. If the only logic for Venin being Venom is their names, then maybe we should take a closer look at Flanker... all I ask is a bit of consistency, or at least some explanation to why Venin is thrown into Venom's page because their names are similar, but not the Flankers.--Blackjack (talk) 16:05, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
- Kyde said he was Sky High. It was said that Venin was originally susspossed to come with Thundercracker, whom's plastic colors would have allowed them to put him in his original color scheme, but they changed it into Acid Storm, nixing that. Escargon (talk) 16:07, 17 July 2014 (EDT)

- TL;DR - For Flanker, we know from Joe Kyde that he was designed based on Sky High's package art, and probably would've been called Sky High had the name been trademarkable. Also, Flanker's Tech Specs match the Air Patrol's. With Venin, Kyde shared that he was originally going to be G1 Venom coloured before his partner got changed from Thundercracker to Acid Storm. Venin got a new colour scheme to match, but there's no reason to say he's not Venom still. Most of Kyde's comments can be found in this Allspark thread. Jalaguy (talk) 16:19, 17 July 2014 (EDT)

Maybe we can add a little footnote under the Flanker section linking to that Allspark thread describing how the authorial intent for the Flanker toy was to be a homage to Sky High, so people like me who wander in without looking at talk pages won't get confused? --Blackjack (talk) 16:26, 17 July 2014 (EDT)

- The footnote is from the design of the toy's alternate mode, not from the identity of the toy, and while that thread has both of them, again, without writing it down as authorial intent it seems like we're just arbitrarily throwing the Flanker toy into Sky High's page even though there are reasons. --Blackjack (talk) 16:33, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
