Reviled?

[edit]

From the article: "This lackluster attempt at a G1 update is generally reviled by fans, and did not have anything like the staying power of its predecessor."

Lackluster I can see, but reviled? --Crockalley 00:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree. Changed to "forgotten." --ItsWalky 00:27, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Yay --Crockalley 00:30, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I revile it at least once a week. Sometimes more, if I can get time off from work.
But I'm unsure about the "curious, since the G2 toyline contained zero post-movie characters" line. While it's true that the post-movie characters proper weren't among the G2 toys, I recall those season-3 eps still featuring G2 chars. For instance, it made at least a little sense to play "Fight or Flee" because it opened with Aerialbots and later spotlighted the Combaticons. I feel like that should be mentioned so it doesn't read as though the season-3 eps were completely nonsensical choices. On the other hand, I don't remember all of the season-3 eps they used, so the pattern might not actually fit. Does anyone know the full list of eps? - Jackpot 00:36, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
It's certainly the laziest piece of toy marketing I've ever seen. It features the right characters (well, some of them anyway), but in the wrong decos! Takeshi357 (talk) 11:09, 13 April 2015 (EDT)

New tv series?

[edit]

An anonymous editor has inserted a claim that some letters page assured readers there would be a "new" TV series after the G2 reruns aired... Can anybody be more specific, or is it bullshit? It sort of sounds like bullshit. The only other thing that user's IP address has done is claim that Dinobot was a utahraptor instead of a velociraptor, so I'm disinclined to trust them. --Steve-o 03:32, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Read through them just to be sure. Nada. --ItsWalky 05:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Trivia connection?

[edit]

All of the episodes there involve alien worlds, center the Insecticons, or center Tracks(ie: Hoist goes to Hollywood, Auto-Bop).Stevo 20:00, 22 March 2010 (EDT)

That's... really reaching. You're essentially saying "All of the episodes come from these three utterly unrelated themes that describe 90% of the Sunbow cartoon." --RosicrucianTalk 22:11, 22 March 2010 (EDT)
I mean really revolve around the planet insecticons or tracksStevo 15:49, 23 March 2010 (EDT)

Airing Data

[edit]

I dove into the US government copyright database and found the copyright registrations for a bunch of G2 episodes, which gave me their original airdates and some of their production numbers. The airdates for the G1 episodes in the copyright database align with the dates we use, and therefore the copyright database must be where those airdates came from in the first place. Ergo, I assume these G2 airdates are equally valid - potentially minus ones I couldn't find.

Season 1

[edit]

1994-06-11: S.O.S. Dinobots, TG2-4

1994-06-18?: Heavy Metal War? TFG2-5?

1994-06-24?: The Autobot Run? TFG2-6?

1994-07-02: The Core, TG2-7

1994-07-09: Dinobot Island Pt. 1., TG2-8

1994-07-16: Dinobot Island Pt. 2., TG2-9

1994-07-23: The Master Builders, TG2-10

1994-07-30: A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court, TG2-11

1994-08-06: The Golden Lagoon, TG2-12

1994-08-13: Prime Target, TG2-13

1994-08-20: More than Meets the Eye Pt. 1., TG2-1

1994-08-27: More than Meets the Eye Pt. 2., TG2-2

1994-09-03: More than Meets the Eye Pt. 3., TG2-3

Heavy Metal War and Autobot Run weren't in the database, so I extrapolated their airdates and production numbers from the current list, which all otherwise matches up - except for MTMTE. The airdates in the copyright registrations suggest that G2 aired MTMTE as a "season finale" instead of a season opener.

I could find airdates for all the season 2 episodes, but a lot more production numbers were missing. I'm... not actually sure now how I reverse-engineered the production numbers. This was a while ago. Looking over the other info I saved, they might be based on the relative order the copyright registrations were in?

Anyway. I'm at least positive on the airdates. This will mean rejiggering our coverage a bit. --Monzo (talk) 04:18, 17 June 2021 (EDT)

I've previously gone through past ATT threads regarding airdates for G2. The season 2 dates look to be correct - I found specific references to the September 12 1994 episode being "War of the Dinobots". The season 1 dates don't match with the first discussions of G2 episodes however. The earliest references I could find that specifically mentioned G2 episodes including the "cyber-cube" dated from April 1993.
This seems to be a case where the airdates for season 1 episodes are unfortunately incorrect, as sometimes happens with other series listed on the US copyright database. Sometimes the airdates they list are correct and sometimes not - there's no discernable logic to it. Jon T (talk) 18:20, 6 October 2021 (EDT)
Taking another look at this, the extrapolated production numbers for the first 13 season 2 episodes are based on the order in which the episodes aired. As the remaining 26 episodes of season 2 were definitely not aired according to their production numbers, another way to extrapolate the missing production numbers for the first 13 episodes of season 2 may be to base them on when the episodes were registered. The registration numbers look to be in reverse order too, which would need to be taken into account. Doing this keeps the respective episodes and production numbers in place for TFG2-14 to TFG2-19, but with the following changes for TFG2-19 to TFG2-26:
1994-09-19: Starscream's Brigade (TFG2-20?)
1994-09-20: The Revenge of Bruticus (TFG2-21?)
1994-09-21: Masquerade (TFG2-23?)
1994-09-22: Ghost in the Machine (TFG2-24?)
1994-09-23: The Ultimate Weapon (TFG2-26?)
1994-09-26: Fight or Flee (TFG2-25?)
1994-09-28: Transport to Oblivion (TFG2-19?)
1994-09-30: Roll for It (TFG2-22?)
Admittedly, this is still pretty much total guesswork.
Regarding the season 1 airdates on the US copyright database, I've also realized that the dates listed there are almost certainly re-run dates. Looking back again at ATT threads revealed one post with what may be the actual debut date for Generation 2 - March 29 1993. Jon T (talk) 18:18, 10 October 2021 (EDT)
