Talk:Wheeljack (G1)/toys

i like that TFWiki has a sense of humor. i like that conveying accurate information trumps humor. i'm not sure why Inkblot revised my edit to this:

an officially-licensed Lancia Stratos with proper "Alitalia" markings

even though

an officially-licensed Lancia Stratos (Unknown whether the switch back from "Alitalla" to "Alitalia" was officially licensed)

not only conveys the same information in a funnier way, but also points out what we don't know (so that someone who does know will know to tell us).

When HasTak uses a name and/or likeness with permission, we mention it:

  • Masterpiece Wheeljack transforms into an officially-licensed Lancia Stratos
  • For the Alternators line, "Meister" was given a new alternate mode, namely a highly accurate, licensed 1:24 scale white Mazda RX-8

When HasTak uses (or approximates) a name and/or likeness without permission, we mention it:

  • The original Wheeljack toy, with sponsor decals by Italian airline Alitalia, which were changed to "Alitalla" for the toy (presumably to avoid licensing problems)
  • Special Ops Jazz looks like Jazz's original Porsche front-end wearing Pontiac Solstice headlights for a hat

Shouldn't the wiki say whether or not Alitalia knows/approves of Masterpiece Wheeljack's product placement? or, if we don't know, shouldn't we make that clear? especially right on the heels of the note that the Lancia Stratos mode is licensed--not saying anything makes it seem (perhaps incorrectly) that Lancia and Alitalia both signed off on the Masterpiece design. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rhymus (talkcontribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.

First of all, how is your version a form of humor? Did I miss the punchline? I sincerely just saw it as a rather flat, plain statement that I replaced with a differently-worded flat, plain statement.
Secondly, I reworded it because it reads very awkwardly and, more importantly, we don't know if Alitalia licensed it. Your examples are fairly definite, but in this case, it's more of an ambiguous gray area. So unless TakaraTomy outright tells us that the Alitalia markings are licensed, there is no reason for this wiki to speculate too much. We are not a forum, after all. Hope this helps.
Although, now that I read that last bit of yours, perhaps a little ambiguity will settle this matter. --Inkblot (talk) 05:24, 10 December 2014 (EST)

Earthrise Packaging Mishap?

[edit]

When I first opened Wheeljack and Ironworks, I noticed the ranking symbols on the cardboard backdrop didn't match the symbol on their packaging. The insig for Ironworks is for some reason on Wheeljack's backdrop, and vice-versa. I also noticed this when watching reviews on each figure. Is this notable for a mention on their respective pages? I realize this is an old question, but if anyone is paying attention to this, I also spotted the same issue. I just got an Earthrise Wheeljack (as in, yesterday) and the rank insignia right by his name indeed does not match the one on the bottom of the backdrop. I don't have Ironworks and can't vouch for that one, but yes, Wheeljack's ranking symbol is wrong. He has the "Ground Command Engineering Sergeant" insignia by his name, but the backdrop has the "Ground Command Engineering Captain" one. According to this very wiki, Ironworks should have the Captain one and Wheeljack should have the Sergeant one. If anyone else can check, information would be greatly appreciated. The Cybertronian military insignia page was written after RedX-100's question. Only the inner trays for Wheeljack and Ironworks refer to them as Ground Command Engineering Captains, evidently copy/pasted from Grapple's packaging. The rest of their boxes, their instructions, their webpage profiles, and Wheeljack's later Walmart redeco corroborate that Wheeljack is meant to be a Ground Command Engineering Sergeant, and Ironworks is meant to be a Space Command Engineering Captain. This is already covered here. TheLastGherkin (talk) 17:44, 3 April 2023 (EDT)

Oh, that's embarrassing. I apologize for my idiocy, I wasn't paying attention. ThatGuy79 (talk) 18:13, 3 April 2023 (EDT)
