Talk:Wreck-Gar (G1)
"relationship with Junkion named Nancy"... I'm not so sure we should refer to her by name here, if indeed she's referred to at all. I checked the "Nancy" page, which sources the name as from a Japanese Guidebook. I'm willing to bet that "Nancy" isn't a real name, but along the lines of the "Lucy" quote with which Wreck-Gar addresses her in "Big Broadcast," i.e. a name that fit a TV reference (not that I know which one).--G.B. - If a guidebook says her name is Nancy, and we have no other source that definitively gives her a name, I say her name is Nancy, regardless of the original intent. --ItsWalky 21:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Do the Junkions actually make television references in Japan? I thought they just had Chinese accents. -LV!
- I recall hearing that too, now that you mention it. If that's the case, it's extremely unlikely Nancy's name is anything but literal.--ItsWalky 22:56, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'd still like to know the context of this mysterious "Japanese guidebook" better. That's an awfully lame name!--G.B. Blackrock 04:13, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, we're keeping "Rodimus Prime." I don't think "lame name" is a criteria here. --ItsWalky 04:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Takara gave a character a terrible name? HOLY SHIT STOP THE PRESSES! --M Sipher 06:18, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

- This is from Transformers First Series Complete. Despite it saying "Junkion Lady" in English, the katakana reads "Nanshii", or, well, "Nancy". There's also a sidenote on her in the TF Character Archive book.
- The "Nanshii" katakana is also there, although I'm admittedly not sure what the rest of the text is. I've been told the First Series Complete book says something generic like "this is Wreck-Gar's girlfriend".
- (Interesting, it doesn't look like the "Nancy" Lithone character model was USED in the final version of TFTM, although there's one that sorta looks like her with a lot of details omitted...)
- Also, about the Junkion race itself - the S3 Autobot history trailer says:
- ... and Wreck-Gar, the leader of a tribe of Autobots that dwells on the planet Junkion.
- Within the context (the narration was going on about off-Earth allies who recently rejoined the main Autobot force), I would say the Junkions were definitely Transformers. Maybe one of the Autobot groups who fled during the war (like those on Paradron or Antilla), but that'd be conjecture. --Monzo 16:52, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Stereotypical chinece accents! X-BoB58 22:55, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Fridge Logic.
[edit]Has it ever occurred to anyone that Wreck-Gar would be a truly huge motorcycle? I mean he's taller than quite a few of the Autobots...
- And the other Junkions can ride him. The only answer is mass shifting.Monty Prime 14:03, 24 July 2009 (EDT)
Possible main image
[edit]
Ugh no. --M Sipher 14:32, 27 December 2010 (EST)
- Not my favorite art, but it does show a clearer perspective. My problem with it is that I think we already use a lot of images from this source, more variety would be better. --Khajidha 14:35, 27 December 2010 (EST)
Now that I've cleaned up the long-standing main image, a few errors stand out to me. He's missing his left nipple for some reason, as well as the hip-pouch on his left side. And I guess the motorcycle windshield was left off his head. Oh, the things one notices when there's not so much distraction going on. But hey, at least Wrecky's still reaching for your purse. --ItsWalky 08:59, 28 December 2010 (EST)
Writing style
[edit]After seeing the articles for Wheelie, Sky-Lynx and many other characters with a quirky personality, words cannot express my disappointment upon reading this one and discovering it was not written in TV. Takeshi357 20:40, 3 November 2012 (EDT)
Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar
[edit]I've removed a section in RTS Wreck-Gar's toy writeup based around this image wholesale. First of all, those photos were used to illustrate the TakaraTomy toy, so they should not be used as the sole evidence for a presumed different original Hasbro deco, especially not when all the actual official Hasbro stock photos (seen here) depict the toy in its standard colors.
Secondly, those photos are very grainy, upscaled poor quality edits with overdone hue/saturation settings. The original versions (with unedited backgrounds) can be found here and show standard Hasbro colors. So the only thing taken from this should be "Preorders for the TakaraTomy figure were originally illustrated with photos depicting a sample in the Hasbro version's deco before the deco for the TakaraTomy version was finalized."--Nevermore (talk) 16:52, 16 October 2016 (EDT)
You talk TV?
[edit]I kinda want a translation of this page in TV. Not as a replacement of this page, maybe just in somebody's sandbox. Waverod ✈️ (talk) 16:43, 16 April 2021 (EDT)
New main pic
[edit]I'm sorry but I'm not fond of that new mainpic. The old one was bad but it was also based on his original body; this one is based on the 2010 toy. Escargon (talk) 22:13, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- The new one isn't a 1-1 match for his cartoon form, but I thought that it did incorporate most of the recognizable cartoon traits (horns on his helmet, nipple thingies) better than the old one did. I guess I can change it back if people think otherwise?Grum (talk) 22:20, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- In general "most-recognizable" body has been our standard for a long time. Escargon (talk) 22:22, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- It doesn't need to be the old pic, mind, but it shouldn't be this one either. I wish again that there would have been actual discussion about this on the talk page instead of just going ahead and doing it. Escargon (talk) 22:36, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- Is that specific image his most recognizable body, though? It's definitely based of this toy body, but when you scroll down to the first section cartoon Wreck-Gar is totally different--different head shape, different colors, wheels, torso pattern, the fact that his beard is grey in the mainpic... I mean, again, I know that it's not based on the original G1 toy but I did think it was a happier medium between the different interpretations than the previous pic. Grum (talk) 23:19, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- It's closer to his original toy than the new pic. Again, it's not a good image, but neither is this for mainpic purposes. And again, there should have been a discussion beforehand. Escargon (talk) 23:24, 30 May 2021 (EDT)
- I think maybe his new Studio Series art might make for a good mainpic? It's mostly cartoon accurate and literally represents his very first appearance. --Fritz (talk) 00:16, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
- I agree that the new picture plainly draws from the Reveal the Shield toy in a way that doesn't feel great, but I also think the old one on the page was barely better. Both belong in a gallery, if we ever get those working, but there must be something closer to the original character model that can be used, surely? Mixed feelings on the Studio Series idea. Do we even have a non-cropped version of that? —The Wadapan (talk) 10:25, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
- Studio Series is the ideal but as far as I know it's only ever shown up on that one T-shirt, which isn't really wiki-quality. Grum (talk) 10:28, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

[edit]Sorry for being three years late, but Wreck-Gar's Studio Series artwork is available in good quality on the Kickstarter page for the unreleased Eaglemoss chess set. ShootingStar7X (talk) 15:16, 12 April 2024 (EDT)
