Template talk:Ongoing
Perhaps we should have a template to insert into character pages' fiction sections to note when a piece of fiction is currently ongoing and is actually EXPECTED to continue, hence its incomplete nature? (Mostly IDW's "-ations" at this point, but once Animated starts up as well.) Just so there's no confusion for those who might not be as up on current events? --M Sipher 05:13, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Certainly would serve better than the stub template for characters like the IDW humans who actually are complete up to the date of the most recent issue.--Rosicrucian 05:40, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- This sounds eminently sensible. -Derik 09:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, this needs a picture and quote from someone involved with time travel. I'd say Heinrad for variety, but I dunno if we have any quotes at all from him, much less suitable ones. I'd like to use something not specifically rom G1... hm. Maybe BW Megs or Dinobot holding the Golden Disc and a quote where they're ruminating about changing the future? Or maybe spider-Arcee, what with her brief dalliance in premonition. Vector Prime really only futzed with the past... --M Sipher 15:52, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Rhinox: "History's still being made!"
- Rattrap: "You don't gotta claim it's pre-ordained..."
- Dinobot: "The future is not fixed..."
- Dinobot: "To be, or not to be..."
- Megatron: "The future has changed!"
- I could getcha screencaps of any of these... -- Repowers 16:13, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think the Rhinox one sums up the point the best.--Rosicrucian 16:28, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I second the vote for the Rhinox quote. --TVsGrady 18:02, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

"It never ends!" --ItsWalky 17:59, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Walky is much more disturbing since he embraced Furmanisms.--Rosicrucian 19:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to suggest that since this template is going to appear all over the wiki, and in the middle of articles, that it be small, relatively unobtrusive, and not have a picture. -Derik 21:11, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Sandbox
[edit]Another stab at an "unobtrusive" variant. Can be moved to main page if you guys like it.--Rosicrucian 21:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

- My stab at a shorter version, mostly just removing extra words from Rosi's:

- --Steve-o 00:41, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- That seems short enough- it'll be 2 lines on most browsers, 1 line if you have a huge window. You could probably cut down the vertical-padding a bit from the default to reduce its page-height footprint even further. -Derik 00:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

That should be about perfect, no?--Rosicrucian 15:01, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've tried it in a few articles. It slips in pretty easily at the head of a fiction section.--Rosicrucian 20:33, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
An "Ongoing" category?
[edit]Was wondering if having all articles with this tag get auto-added to some kind of "Ongoing" category might be useful, in making it easier to keep track of what articles might need updating with newer stuff fiction-wise. (Probably as a sub-category of the "Needs Fiction" category.) --Jeysie 18:20, 26 September 2009 (EDT)
Removal of template
[edit]Can this be removed from articles if the entity in question hasn't appeared in a significant amount of time (say 6 months) even if the fiction itself is still ongoing? For example Jimmy Pink's IDW section is still tagged with the ongoing template. As is the Sports Car Patrol's. --Khajidha 14:03, 27 June 2011 (EDT)
No, this should not be deleted
[edit]There is a very real and important difference between a fiction section that is incomplete because it hasn't been written up yet, and incomplete because the fiction itself has not yet been released. Simply putting a "stub" template implies there is work to be done NOW. "Ongoing" indicates that no, this is more than likely as complete as it can be now but will expand in the future. --M Sipher (talk) 20:15, 30 April 2023 (EDT)
