One of the UK letters page addresses this- it says the reaosn Cyclonus was killed by having his head torn off while other voluntary and involuntary beheading victims survived was because he had absolutely no time to prepare. Even a half-second warning to engage the disengage the his systems might've saved his life... but withotu that- it was like ripping out the drive train on a running engine- the entire motor seized-- kaput. If you took the car out of gear THEN ripped out the drive train... it insulated the engine from the sudden trauma.
