Vertebreak is a Decepticon from the Robots in Disguise portion of the Aligned continuity family.
The unholy offspring of Pharma, Railspike, and Colada.

A Snaketicon of science, Vertebreak is an ambitious sort who dares to dream of such things as horrific and unethical body augmentation. His goal is a modest one, to build a bigger, better Cybertronian... by any means necessary. In order to achieve that dream, he has sought knowledge from other worlds, even techniques that were foolishly forbidden by his peers. And if it means taking parts from other 'bots to do it, even if they aren't particularly keen to help science move forward? Well, that's not a crime, is it? Oh, it is? Well that's stupid.

Just wait. He'll show them how wrong they are and how right he is.

Oh, he'll show them all.

On Cybertron, Vertebreak was a member of Crystal City's science council. To his colleagues' horror, he studied and intended to use surgical knowledge from other worlds to perform cyber-grafting experiments, and was imprisoned on the Alchemor before he could put his plans into motion. Fortunately for Vertebreak, the ship's crash landing on Earth freed him from his incarceration. Taking the form of a train, he set up a new laboratory in Crown City's subway network, and began his experiments anew.

Fortune smiled on Vertebreak again when the Autobot Sideswipe blundered into his territory alone. Vertebreak attacked him while the Autobot was busy boasting, before dragging him back to his lair. There, he performed his cyber-grafting technique by attaching his head to Sideswipe's body. While the process gave Vertebreak access to Sideswipe's natural agility and learned fighting techniques, he elected to keep the young Autobot's head intact in order to have continued access to a needed "brain enzyme" in the event his grafting process didn't take. Vertebreak attacked Sideswipe's companions in short order, but, in the end, he was defeated when Sideswipe realized he could predict each of Vertebreak's movements. He was subsequently recaptured and both his and Sideswipe's heads were restored to their proper bodies. Some Body, Any Body

SNEOPLE!

Vertebreak's stasis pod was later taken back to Cybertron by Optimus Prime, Windblade and Ratchet. Decepticon Island (Part 2)

Vertebreak's lab was later used by fellow prisoner and scientist Simacore as a cloning factory that manufactured an army of Mini-Clones. After Simacore was defeated, the Autobots cleared the lab of Cybertronian technology before alerting human authorities of the lab itself. The Fastest Bot Alive!

Notes

  • While he was not stated to be one on the show (and their existence was not established until "Pretzel Logic"), Adam Beechen has stated that he considers Vertebreak to (pre-SCIENCE) have been a Snaketicon.
