With Earth's defenders out of the way, Baron Karza prepares to deal with the final obstacle to his conquest of Earth: Oz Rael and the Micronauts!

Synopsis

In the Mobile Operations Base of the Ministry of War, Baron Karza and Shazraella discuss their invasion plans for Earth. While Shazraella wants to simply wipe out humanity and be done with it, her husband is reluctant to take that step, believing that Earth will eventually accept their leadership as Microspace has. Before they can conquer the world, however, they must first find and neutralize Oziron Rael and his crew of Micronauts; then, nothing will stand in their way.

On board the Heliopolis, the ever-quipping Micronauts find themselves under fire from a Microspace ship that manages to clip their wings, sending them crashing to the ground; while Acroyear retains consciousness and manages to pull Oz and Phenolo-Phi from the wreckage, he is quickly confronted by the ship's occupants, led by Membros, who have landed to capture the Heliopolis's crew. Acroyear takes on all seven of his opponents, but though he momentarily gains the upper hand with his trusted Weeble, it is sliced in half by a Repto's buzzsaw and Acroyear is knocked into unconsciousness by Membros's electrical weapon. As Membros and his team leave, they destroy the wreckage of the Heliopolis in an explosion, leaving the bisected toy to watch over the landscape.

As Karza and Shazraella watch over their armies, the Repto reports to them: the Heliopolis is destroyed and the surviving crew have been taken prisoner, with the Microtron unit and Larissa being killed in the ship's destruction. Shazraella comforts Karza; though he is grief-stricken at the death of their daughter, she invites him to remember how he met with the Time Travelers in the Entropy Cloud, and how they showed him both his past and his future, and the path to his victory... including Larissa's death. While Karza accepts what his wife tells him, he takes out his anger on the Repto by choking it, before musing that Shazraella was right—sometimes, in order to conquer, you must kill.

And beneath the wreckage of the Heliopolis, a bright blue force-field flares... and Larissa and Microtron, very much alive, climb out from within, ready to fight back!

Continuity notes

  • Karza's forces are referred to as the "Ministry of War". It's not clear if this is an error that should be "Ministry of Defense", or if the Ministry has been rechristened for the invasion of Earth, but considering the context (and absent any other evidence) we're assuming the latter.
  • Karza's screens depicting his various enemies have Rom marked with a big question mark, alluding to how he went unmentioned in the previous issue despite the claims that all of Earth's defenders were being dealt with.

Micronauts references

  • The name of the Mobile Operations Base seems to owe something to the Mobile Exploration Lab.
  • Membros's team that crews the "Sharkos", revealed here in full, is the entire set of 1979-81 "alien" Micronauts figures, plus Commander Raith.
    • Some of the aliens previously appeared in a different way in earlier arcs of Micronauts: a different-looking Antron appeared in issue #3 as an assassin trying to kill Baron Karza, a species based on Kronos (but named the "Kronus", presumably to differentiate them) appeared in issues #8-#9, and "Lobros" was used as a name for a pest in issue #3.
    • At first it wasn't clear that Commander Raith was himself, as he's more of a moss green compared to his original turquoise and some details on his helmet are different; however, issue #4 would eventually confirm his identity.
  • Lying amongst the wreckage of the Heliopolis, there's a couple of oddly head-like objects...
