Sometime before the present day, it is implied that Zalilak and Proximus had an encounter that was unpleasant for both of them. Void Rivals #7

Zalilak listened to one of his citizens' request for more water when he was informed about Solila's arrival. Meeting her with guards, he is greeted with a "gift": Darak, greatest of the Agorrian pilots, and son of Minister Dulin. When discussing Solila's capture of the Agorrian, he quickly surmised that the two had shown each other their faces, and threw her in a prison cell with Darak. Moments later, he called Dulin on a secret channel to inform him that his son had shown his face to Solila. Knowing what must be done, Zalilak told Dulin that he would deal with Solila as they agreed.Void Rivals #4

While in the middle of his feast, Zalilak discovered the two pilots had escaped, and ordered that they be found. He was later informed that Solila and Darak had fled into the Wastelands of the Sacred Ring. Not willing to underestimate them again, he realized that to prevent unity, to prevent Goliant's return... he needed to revive the hunter known as Proximus. Void Rivals #6 Using technology that allows two people to speak in a "mental space", Zalilak convinced Proximus to hunt down Solila and Darak, though Proximus noted Zalilak's panic in his voice. Back on Zertonia, Zalilak told Gulan to release Proximus. Void Rivals #7

By the time Darak and Solila had reached their destination in the Wastelands, Zalilak was "summoned" to another holographic meeting by Dulin, who called him a "usurper". Before the two could begin truly arguing, Dulin apologized to Zalilak, before inquiring about his son's status. Zalilak informed Dulin that Darak was alive, and detected relief in Dulin. Reminding his co-conspirator of what was at stake, their call ended when Dulin realized Darak and Solila had escaped, causing Zalilak to abruptly end the call. Later, alarmed that Proximus's tracker was no longer transmitting a signal, he ordered his Minister of Arms to send a Squadron and Blastwings to Proximus's last location, dismissing the Minister's concerns. Void Rivals #10 After the Zertonian forces sent to the Wastelands failed to stop Darak from reaching Agorria, a defeated Zalilak passed the responsibility of preventing unity onto Dulin's hands. Leaving the secret communication chamber, a Zertonian trooper informed the Premier that their scientists had begun to examine a data pad received from one of the soldiers who went to the wastelands. Zalilak ordered the soldier to notify him when the validity of the data pad's contents was confirmed. Void Rivals #12

Traveling to the Temple of Zerta's Light, Zalilak was greeted by Mistress Vill. Fearing he had failed to prevent unity, he became furious at Vill's suggestion that fear of unity was a flawed belief. Zalilak was knocked down by Vill in response to his fury. Void Rivals #13 Vill mocked Zalilak's title of "First Chosen of the Embrace of Zerta", and Zalilak admitted that he was willing to walk the Path of Light. Void Rivals #14
