G1 continuity family « Alternity » Toyline Fiction

Transformers: Alternity (トランスフォーマー オルタニティ) is a TakaraTomy toyline that ran from 2009 to 2012. It is the successor to the Binaltech toyline. It features licensed vehicle alternate modes in its toys, as well as a mixture of plastic and die-cast metal. Toys are scaled down from their previous Binaltech/Alternators proportions, now being 1:32 scale rather than 1:24, and roughly equivalent in size to the mainline "deluxe" size class. Its fiction, meanwhile, is even more ambitious than its predecessor, chronicling the battle between higher dimensional gods, the titular Alternity, and the "Beast of Time" Hytherion for the fate of the multiverse. Alternity was itself succeeded by Transformers GT, a much less high-concept racing themed series composed entirely of retools of Alternity's Convoy mold.

Picking up where Story of Binaltech left off, the next chapter of author Hirofumi Ichikawa's interdimensional epic chronicles how the inhabitants of BT World ascend to become the titular Alternity, god-like multidimensional beings aggregating all the iterations of a given Transformer across the multiverse into a singular collective consciousness. As the war between the "Protectors" and the "Hytherion" across space and time rages, the combatants frequently flitted in and out of "universal streams" throughout the multiverse until the Alternity sacrifice their enlightenment to end the conflict, largely returning BT World to normal.

• To pitch the Alternity line, Hironori Kobayashi enlisted the help of Hirofumi Ichikawa, who produced a concept image of an Alternity Meister. A large amount of the design was put to use on Alternity Convoy once the line was approved.
• While it's unknown whether it's a product of coincidence or a deliberate reference by Ichikawa, the term "Alternity" (plural "Alternaties") was used by fan (later pro) writer James Roberts in his unofficial 2001 novel Eugenesis to refer to parallel realities.
