Mingo Kid is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Spot the Mingo! ... oh, there he is.

Born to a family of artists, Mingo Kid (ミンゴーキッド Mingō Kiddo) is renowned across planet Beast for his numerous avant-garde artistic displays. Painting, sculpting, dancing, flying... his interests are wide and varied. And with his Mach 2 airspeed and incredible endurance for long-distance flight, he can take his act anywhere on the globe, and since he loves to fly, he takes every opportunity to do so. And, as artists are wont to do, his moods can swing wildly, from laid-back and relaxed to suddenly impatient and impulsive.

In battle, aside from using his incredible airspeed, he can launch ultrasonic bursts that disrupt enemy radar. His MVP Weapon, the Performancer (パフォーマンサー pafōmansā), can break objects down into small spheres, which he can manipulate and re-create at will.

He currently serves as the Emperor of Hilles under King Būpink, but it's a bit of a question as to what, exactly, his duties there are.

Released in the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Mingo Kid is an anthropomorphic flamingo in blue robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
During this line, Mingo Kid was only available in the Burstsun Special Set (バーストサンスペシャルセット Bāsutosan Supesharu Setto) multipack. This blindpacked set contains 10 figures out of a potential 14. Thankfully, these were not randomly-packed, and came in two distinct lineups.
The first version has White Leo with an exclusive "Burstsun" Battle Emblem, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Dog Hunter, Dream Eater, Muskhorn, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.
The second version has Ghost Alligatron, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Crowmax, Earthhog, Mingo Kid, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.

  • Mingo Kid (Beastformer, 1988)
  • ID number: 73
  • Accessories: "Performancer" MVP Weapon
Re-released in Beastformers's post-Transformers sequel series, Mingo Kid was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with comic-style character art on the front. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Performancer".
He was sold in the second assortment of individually-packed Beastformers, with a peg-hole in the top flap, and a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it. This series did not have any kind of "rare card" random pack-in promotion.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

[edit]
  • Mingo Kid's 1987 character art (at the top of the page) incorrectly shows him with a golden weapon. The 1988 version of this art corrects this, giving him the proper purple weapon.
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the nickname "Flan" (フラン Furan).
