Bonecrusher (Movie)

Bonecrusher is a Decepticon from the Transformers portion of the movie continuity family.

Known as the "Claw of Megatron", Bonecrusher can be described with one word: hate. While other Decepticons get by on greed, ambition, or just their fondness for dispensing chaos, Bonecrusher is fueled by sheer, unrelenting hate. He hates everyone and everything, be they Autobot, Decepticon, or anything in-between—he even hates himself, revolted by his misshapen, hunchbacked robot mode, which he considers a reflection of all the ugliness and malice inside himself. The full force of this vicious cycle of hatred finds release in explosive frenzied bursts of psychotic brutality, as Bonecrusher takes out the full force of his bitterness and self-loathing on anyone who looks at him sideways. He hates that. He also hates Megatron, but would hate being terminated by the Decepticon leader more, so he sticks around.

On Cybertron, Bonecrusher was actually quite a skilled tactician—dedicated to the art of war, a fast thinker who could plough into battle while others were still mapping out strategy, and, most importantly in Megatron's eyes, a masterfully dirty fighter. However, Bonecrusher's skills left him consigned to a supervisory position and kept him off the battlefield, which, of course, he hated. Naturally, this only helped to increase his already epic levels of frustration and misery at his lot in life, until he became what he is today. He's so intensely pent-up that he'll unflinchingly take on opponents of any size—the bigger the better! Bonecrusher wouldn't hesitate to confront Optimus Prime head on, if he could.

He transforms into a Buffalo mine-clearing vehicle used by the military, perhaps because it was the vehicle he hated the least.

He hates the sundown slowdown.

Bonecrusher was hiding out in the motor pool of a military base when he received a communique from Starscream ordering the Decepticons to mobilize and converge on the location of the AllSpark. Leaving the base, he reported that he was "rolling" out. Sometime after this, he rendezvoused with Barricade and Devastator, and the three Decepticons headed off together to intercept the Autobots and their human allies who had the AllSpark in their possession.

Bonecrusher, like most celebs, hates the paparazzi. He also hates closeups.

Devastator wandered off somewhere, so Bonecrusher and Barricade continued their pursuit on the freeway. Barricade activated his sirens to clear the traffic and allow them more maneuvering room. Unsatisfied with Barricade's less conspicuous method, Bonecrusher used his mine-scoop to flip cars out of his way. Surprisingly, the Autobots didn't find this out of the ordinary, and only reacted when ladiesman217 recognized Barricade and warned the Autobots. Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Ratchet aligned to block the Decepticons from Bumblebee, who had the AllSpark and the fleshlings.

Bonecrusher loves (for once) to watch things burn. Just not himself.

After Barricade pulled over to the side of the road, Bonecrusher transformed while still moving and skated towards the Autobots. Optimus Prime transformed and slid into position to block his path. Seeing the Autobot he really hated, Bonecrusher smashed through a bus, and tackled Optimus Prime, pushing him off an overpass tumbling and falling off the edge, dragging the Autobot leader down with him.

Thus began (and ended) Bonecrusher's hatred of Prime's sword.

When they landed, he sucker-punched Optimus Prime, who then hit Bonecrusher so hard one of the Decepticon's optics popped free from its socket, all the while being observed by a little kid in an SUV, who thought the entire experience was cool. The two played a little cat-and-mouse along the overpasses. After Prime jumped down to ground level, Bonecrusher swung his claw wildly at the Autobot, all the while screaming incoherently. This gave Optimus the opportunity he needed to get his sword ready... which the Autobot leader used to cleave off Bonecrusher's right arm and run through the Decepticon's neck, nearly severing it. Bonecrusher was known and feared by Autobots for never giving up. He almost killed Jazz once and pursued him and his comrade Clocker for ages, driven by his hatred of nice-looking shiny robots (or nice-looking anythings). As he said, "I figure, why should they look so nice... when I look like this!" Clocker covered the wounded Jazz's retreat and tried to fight Bonecrusher, who hated that and killed him. Alternate timeline

In an alternate timeline where Megatron won the battle of Mission City, Bonecrusher was surprisingly still alive and was in charge of security at the Decepticon's AllSpark holding facility. Although he was happy that he has his arm and head reattached, he hated his job, as he was just a glorified drone director, and not able to kill anything himself. Thus, when he learned that Ironhide and Ratchet were trying to get into the facility, he decided to let the two Autobot infiltrators in, just so he could personally confront and kill them. So he not only disliked his job, he also wasn't very good at it. Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 3 His fists hated on Ironhide's face before Ratchet stepped in, tearing the Decepticon up with offensive weaponry. Arcee's team arrived to take out the drones, leaving Ironhide and Ratchet free to bash up Bonecrusher Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 4; you'd think he would have hated this and wanted it to stop, but when the Autobots got pinned down by Payload drone fire, Bonecrusher tore apart his own troops to reach and kill the Autobots. Ghosts of Yesterday

Bonecrusher was part of the crew of the Nemesis, led by Starscream, who were searching for Megatron, who was lost thousands of years before, along with the AllSpark. He hated Starscream, but then so did pretty much all the other Decepticons on board.

When Starscream left to go destroy an alien vessel, Bonecrusher eagerly joined Blackout's plan to attack the Ark against Starscream's orders, as there was nothing else to attack. Bypassing Optimus Prime, he headed straight for the Ark. However, when he forced his way into the hangar, Jazz and Ironhide were waiting, and unleashed hell upon him. He hated that. When Blackout ordered a withdrawal, Bonecrusher reluctantly complied.

Shortly afterwards, Barricade picked Bonecrusher to lead another assault on the Ark. His only response to the command was a growl. The battle went better, this time with Bonecrusher managing to inflict some serious damage on Jazz. When Starscream joined them, but refused to tell them what he'd learned about the alien ship, Blackout challenged their leader, and Bonecrusher and Frenzy kept well back. Blackout had his exhaust port handed to him, and Bonecrusher was ordered to drag him back to the Nemesis. During the subsequent fight, Bonecrusher had to fight Ironhide, and managed to dent his armor. However, when Starscream ordered the destruction of the alien ship, Blackout questioned his reasons, and Bonecrusher backed his fallen comrade up, though didn't press the issue as they were mid-battle. Later, Bonecrusher managed to spear Optimus with his tail, but the alien ship's weapons damaged Starscream enough that the Decepticons had to retreat, and Bonecrusher was forced to help his leader back to the Nemesis. During the civil war on Cybertron, Bonecrusher was one of many warriors who fought for Megatron before the planet was ultimately abandoned. Defiance #4

Bonecrusher was a member of Starscream's unit that was keeping Optimus Prime's reinforcements out of Tyger Pax. When Brawl arrived with news of Megatron and the AllSpark, Bonecrusher insisted that they move on as they had already killed all the Autobots in the area. He then demanded that Brawl take them to Megatron or he would kill them all. Witnessing the launch of the AllSpark, Barricade commented that Cybertron would die, but Bonecrusher replied that they should let it die, and that Barricade should join it in death. After Starscream and Blackout settled their differences, the group headed after Megatron. Planetfall

They landed on Mars, the fourth planet of the solar system where they had detected the AllSpark's energy signature. The Decepticons destroyed a primitive life form encountered on the surface. The Reign of Starscream #1

The Decepticons made planetfall on Earth in Afghanistan, quickly attracting the attention of a nearby US military base, which sent out an armoured personnel carrier to investigate. Bonecrusher declared his satisfaction in finally having something to kill, but this chance was snatched away when Wreckage scanned the vehicle and destroyed it. He hated when that happened. Despite all appearances, Bonecrusher managed to escape after his encounter with Optimus Prime (missing his head? beaten to a pulp?). While hiding out in the South American jungle, his version of relieving stress was ripping apart trees and destroying South American military convoys. Unite for the Universe

Following Bonecrusher's death, his body was kept at the N.E.S.T. N.B.E. Resource Redistribution Plant in Toronto, Canada waiting to be melted down by NEST. Before they got a chance to do so, Skystalker attacked the plant and stole the bodies of Bonecrusher and Sideways, intending to graft parts of them onto Starscream as part of Project Unite. After the Autobots manage to secure the AllSpark, they are attacked by Decepticon drones led by Bonecrusher. To give Bumblebee time to escape with the Cube, Optimus Prime takes on Bonecrusher personally, eventually besting him. After this Bonecrusher wasn't seen or mentioned through the rest of the game. Transformers: The Ride – 3D

Bonecrusher was among the Decepticons that attacked the grand opening of the new N.E.S.T. training facility. Optimus, Bumblebee and N.E.S.T. managed to repel the attack. Transformers: The Ride – 3D Grand Opening (Orlando)

Bonecrusher rolled in and attacked Evac and Sideswipe as they retreated from Devastator. He then transformed and began swinging his claw around wildly as Sideswipe tried to hold him off. Sideswipe was not strong enough to stop the bulky Decepticon but did manage to sever his claw. Bonecrusher was then dispatched when Evac landed some well placed shots to his chest and neck, falling to the pavement as the Autobots continued on. Transformers: The Ride – 3D

He hates multidimensional crossover games. But he loves speed-skating.

Bonecrusher was one of the Decepticons pulled from his universe by the Quintessons and forced to fight. He eventually joins the Commander. There are at least a few of him running around! As a Warrior, his prickly nature makes enemies Bleed when Critically punching him, which fuels Bonecrusher's attacks of hatred while reducing opponents' Evade and Power Rate. As part of the AllSpark Battles refresh of the Movie toyline, Bonecrusher is a Legends class figure, transforming from a small robot into a Buffalo mine-protected vehicle with a painted head & vehicle windows, but no painted tires. His vicious fork-arm is also poseable. He is also packed with an unchanged Legends-class Jazz figure.

Released in the third wave of Transformers Deluxe Class figures, Bonecrusher transforms into a Buffalo mine-protected vehicle, with an articulated "mine-fork" for removing mines or cars or robots or unsuspecting buildings from his path. Although the fork is packaged with its sets of tines opposing one another, they can be rotated into a more appropriate side-by-side vehicle mode configuration, which the instructions fail to call out. He has six rolling wheels in this mode, and two sculpted, non-functional spare wheels. Also undocumented in the instructions are a pair of panels on his shoulders which are pinned through, able to be folded out.

His robot mode is, like most of the movie toys, based on pre-final design work, explaining his extremely long extensible arms as seen on some concept art. The mine-fork splits to form a grabber-claw, which can snap onto victims with a geared slider Automorph mechanism. His hips can often detach from the codpiece holding them together. He is extremely short compared to many contemporary Deluxes. The left side of his vehicle mode has a sticker of his personal symbol, a dog with a set of mine-fork tines coming from its mouth.

He is named "Bonescrusher" on the Canadian cross-sell. Guess how Bonecrusher feels about that little misspelling.

This figure was also repurposed as a generic Constructicon in IDW's Tales of the Fallen.

• Deluxe Class three-pack (Sam's Club exclusive multi-pack, 2007)

This Sam's Club-exclusive three-pack contains an unchanged Deluxe Class Bonecrusher together with equally unchanged Deluxe Class Decepticon Brawl and Autobot Jazz toys. It also comes with a nifty poster depicting all three toys in a standoff scene. Not so nifty is that the box accidentally places Brawl and Bonecrusher's bios underneath each other.

• Jungle Bonecrusher (Deluxe Class, 2008)

Finally, the big guy gets a redeco, in deep forest green and olive green, as part of the "AllSpark Power" refresh line. It's not easy being green, and he hates that. He also hates redecos, slavish or not. He also hates quality control, and fans who complain that the claw arm now has a habit of popping off with little force, while the original did not. Reviewer Benson Yee pointed out that this interferes with the automorph trick, as the arm can now pop off while sliding that lever. It's obvious by now how he feels about Ben Yee, swivel joints, quality control, sore shoulders (and possibly his own shoulders as well), ball joints, etc...

An unchanged regular release version of Deluxe Class Bonecrusher packed with a redecoed Voyager Class Optimus Prime to reference their battle under a freeway overpass that ended with Bonecrusher's decapitation and Prime standing heroically bathed in the light of a sunset.

Bonecrusher hates deserts but likes decimation, so he's in two minds with this set.

A redeco of 2007 Legends Bonecrusher featuring black windows and select parts cast in darker brown plastic. He was only available in the market six-exclusive "Desert Decimation" 4-pack together with Ironhide, Ratchet, and Decepticon Brawl.

The stock photography incorrectly shows Bonecrusher's hand/rear truck ladder pieces as being light brown when they are dark brown on the final toy.

• The Fury of Bonecrusher (multi-pack, 2010)

Transformers: Hunt for the Decepticons Bonecrusher is a redeco of his Deluxe Class toy, with his darker brown plastic replaced with olive green, and featuring metallic and battle-damage paint operations placed asymmetrically on his body. One of his eyes is also painted over with black, reminding us of how one of his eyes popped out when Optimus Prime cut his head off. The problem with the claw arm popping off has also been fixed. This Walmart-exclusive two-pack also contained a redeco of Recon Ironhide and a "Most Wanted" collector's card for Bonecrusher.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Legends Class Bonecrusher was released under the Transformers Animated brand in Japan, as part of the second assortment of blind-packed "EZ Collection" toys, which was half-Animated, half-movie. This version of Bonecrusher has the same plastics as the Hasbro "Desert Decimation" release, but has metallic-blue windows and black Decepticon sigils on his sides.

Released in the fifth wave of Studio Series Voyagers, Bonecrusher transforms from into a licensed Buffalo mine-protected vehicle. His mine-plow arm is highly articulated, swinging forward in vehicle mode to clear the path ahead of him as well as becoming his nasty back-mounted grabby-claw-tail-thing. In robot mode, he is only barely taller than his Deluxe predecessor; however, he still has significantly more mass given the upgrade in size class, plus greater screen-accuracy.

Bonecrusher's feet contain ankle pivots, but only the back halves of each foot are designed to move. If the joints are rotated beyond a certain point, the front halves will be angled too far away from a surface to make contact with it. This makes some front-heavy poses difficult to achieve without a stand.

He comes with a cardboard backdrop display depicting the highway fight with Optimus Prime from the first Transformers film.

Buzzworthy Bumblebee

Yes, because having "All Hail Megatron" on the side of your alt mode will really help you go undercover as an Autobot.

Buzzworthy Bumblebee "N.E.S.T. Bonecrusher" is a redeco of his earlier Studio Series figure, transforming into a dark gray Buffalo mine-protected vehicle with N.E.S.T. livery and Autobot badges. His bio states that he is going undercover to gather intelligence for the Decepticons, though Despite his secretive mission he has the leet words "4LL H4IL M3947R0N" accompanied by a Decepticon symbol painted on his vehicle mode sides. He retains the "Highway Showdown" backdrop from his first release, this time with Buzzworthy graphics.

This figure presents a continuity issue as N.E.S.T. was formed after Bonecrusher's death, though Sam Smith justifies it with his lookalike in Revenge of the Fallen actually being Bonecrusher himself!

Much like the rest of Buzzworthy Bumblebee, N.E.S.T. Bonecrusher is exclusive to Target and was was first revealed via online listings with no prior announcement from Hasbro.

Masterpiece Movie Series Bonecrusher is a large screen-accurate representation of the character's CGI model and transforms into a licensed General Dynamics Buffalo Mine Sweeper in 84 steps. He comes with two alternate claw arms which replicate his appearance in either robot or vehicle mode. He also comes with an alternate face which features a dangling left eye, resembling his appearance after Optimus Prime punches him in the face.

Bonecrusher also comes with six Fire Blast effects that can plug into various parts of his body, meaning you can now let Bonecrusher destroy any moving buses in Masterpiece form! To avoid tire licensing, his tires are branded "MEGATRON" with a Decepticon logo.

A 34-point "uncommon" character in the 3D Battle-Card Game, Bonecrusher is formed from pieces punched out from two different cards and can be assembled to form a mine-clearing vehicle or a robot. He also comes with a third card providing stats for his attacks in each mode. Bonecrusher uses the same parts layout as Longarm from the movie continuity and "Classic" Bonecrusher and Inferno from Generation 1.

Available exclusively in this set, this Attacktix playing piece of Bonecrusher is funnily enough one of the most accurate pieces of merchandise he has. The set also includes unique playing pieces of Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee. Bonecrusher hates the fact that everybody else has guns, and he has to use a claw. He also hates the fact that the Attacktix line was canceled before he was released.

Game over. This Attacktix item has been canceled, with no current plans for release.

Bonecrusher hates being cute and adorable and super deformed and not having a transformation-scheme. Wow he's really serious with this hate thing.

Released by Tomy Yujin in November 2007 as part of the Danglers Collection, this toy is a weird plastic super deformed version of Bonecrusher that pops out his vehicle mode when you squeeze him. This little figurine has a little strap on it so that it can be put on cell phones or portable gaming devices.

Robot Heroes Bonecrusher comes packaged with the impressively-armed Ironhide. He is depicted lunging forward on his roller-skate feet, presumably to deliver an extremely enthusiastic hug. This figurine is notorious for not actually being able to stand up on its feet very well, usually requiring one of its hands to be used for balance.

As a Robot Powered Machines "Mini-Vehicle", Bonecrusher is a small, non-transforming Buffalo with his robot mode sculpted on its underside. He features through-axle construction similar to the Generation 2 Go-Bots, letting him zip along smooth surfaces (and compatible racetrack sets) at high speed. Bonecrusher was only available in a two-pack with Optimus Prime.

In Europe, the names on the packaging are Mudflap Vs. Skids for some reason. Bonecrusher hates packaging errors.

As part of the final wave of RPMs, Battle Series 2 did not get released through normal retail outlets in the United States, instead showing up for sale first in Canada, Asia and Europe. Later, though, it would show up in the US though Toys"R"Us Express mall stores and discount chains like Ross and TJ Maxx.

The exclusive version of the Prime 1 Studio Museum Masterline Optimus Prime statue based on his Revenge of the Fallen appearance comes with a replica of Bonecrusher's decapitated head.

This version of Optimus Prime also comes with Grindor's head torn in half and is limited to 888 pieces.

You know these "photoshop fails" where someone has an extra arm?

• The real Buffalo mine-sweeping vehicle doesn't have such a huge fork. It is only 14 inches (35 centimeters) wide. The image that inspired Bonecrusher's design was actually a Photoshopped image put on the official Force Protection company's site to make it look more impressive. A 10-foot-wide (3 meter) appliance had to be fixed on Bonecrusher's arm for the movie.
• The majority of clips during Bonecrusher's highway car-flipping scenes have the mine-sweeping arm completely computer animated, as evident by the real, unaltered 14 inch-forked mine-sweeping arm being visbile in its docked position (where it sits while it is not in use). It seems that, despite there being mention behind the scenes that an appliance was attached to make it more menacing, the attached appliance—and possibly the arm's hydraulics—were not actually strong enough to lift cars like Michael Bay had originally wanted, leading to a new CGI arm being added in post-production. Unfortunately, the animators forgot to remove the real arm that the CGI arm extends out of.
• Force Protection loves Bonecrusher and the fact that he has picked their Buffalo as his alternate mode. They are actually quite proud of it.
• Bonecrusher's toy was used as a prop for a CNN Headline News report demonstrating the real Buffalo vehicle's mine-sweeping arm.
• According to a press kit sent out in conjunction with the movie, Bonecrusher is "another Constructicon" who "forms Brawl's left arm". Thus far, there have been no reports of people using Bonecrusher as one of Brawl's arms, left or otherwise.
  • Regardless, a Constructicon resembling Bonecrusher appears in Tales of the Fallen #3 and Tales of the Fallen #4.
• At various points during his fight with Optimus Prime, Bonecrusher emits some garbled roars that some viewers want to believe is English dialogue. However, the subtitles and closed captions for the film do not identify any dialogue, just labeling it as "roaring," and considering how future films would depict the Decepticons as often speaking in garbled Cybertronian gibberish, it seems unlikely that Bonecrusher was intended to be saying anything comprehensible to human ears.
• Bonecrusher is Michael Bay's favorite character from the film, despite his limited screentime—so much so that Bay named his new dog after him.
• In one of Hasbro's bimonthly Q & As, it was revealed that, in retrospect, Hasbro thought a Voyager-class figure would have been a better fit for the figure than the Deluxe. Over a decade after the release of the first film, Studio Series rectified this with a new Voyager-class figure.
• Bonecrusher's sequences were particularly difficult for ILM to do at first. The solution came from videotaping employees rollerblading in the parking lot, and a pair of fighting experts going through the motions wanted for Bonecrusher and Prime, then using that footage as references.
• Bonecrusher's head design in the Planetfall prequel comic appears to be based on a particular early concept art or a similiar one for the 2007 movie.
• Each time he appears in Forged to Fight, Bonecrusher has Revenge of the Fallen as his multiverse credit, rather than the MV1 credit as seen with Optimus Prime. While Forged to Fight may be referring to the Buffalo MPV Decepticon from that film, one can only assume he hates this error.
• Last but not least, Bonecrusher hates you.
