Great Convoy

The Great Convoys (グレートコンボイ Gurēto Konboi) are high-ranking Convoy-type Transformers who act as the ruling body on Cybertron, answering only to Vector Sigma tens of thousands of years into the future. One in particular is a real no-nonsense type and has little to no patience when it comes to disobedience. He and the others also have some snazzy robes.

When Blue Big Convoy shirked his duties to the Great Convoys, one attempted to pull him into line, but the radical Convoy rejected their claims of authority based on their type and possession of Energon Matrices. When Blue Big Convoy fell in battle against a mysterious group that sought Unicron's energy, Vector Sigma summoned the same Great Convoy to announce the mechanization of Cybertron in preparation for the upcoming war. Acting on Vector Sigma's behalf, the Great Convoys tasked Big Convoy with training new Maximal cadets, with an initial mission to investigate Lio Convoy's disappearance on Gaia. Big Convoy, Move Out

A while after Big Convoy's unit began hunting Angolmois Capsules, one Great Convoy contacted Big Convoy that they were becoming impatient with the lack of progress in collection. When the Great Convoy initially blamed and offered to replace the trainees, Big Convoy took sole responsibility for the delay; his superior decided to give him three days to obtain another capsule before having an discussion about his ability to command. Thanks to some hijinks with Big Convoy's Maximals and Sharp Edge, an Angolmois Capsule was able to be found before the deadline. Personal Combat in the Deep Sea!!

Later, Unicron used Angolmois Energy to revive himself as an energy being and sought to use Cybertron as a new physical body. To prevent this, Vector Sigma formed the Grand Fleet with the main Great Convoy as the head to defend the planet. When negotiations with Unicron failed, Great Convoy sicced the fleet's full firepower on Unicron, but his state allowed him to absorb all of the energy and, in a fiery dragon form, annihilated the fleet. The Great Convoy died in the blaze. End of the Maximals!?

When Unicron was finally defeated, Vector Sigma appointed Lio Convoy and Big Convoy as new Great Convoys; Lio Convoy became "Great Lio Convoy", although Big Convoy declined the honor. Graduation Ceremony!!

End of G1 Universe

Much more time later, the era of the Great Convoys came to an end and were subsequently replaced by the Prime Leaders. Great Lio Convoy renamed himself "Leo Prime" to better accommodate the new leadership. Dark Amber Leo Prime bio

Great Convoy presided over the ceremony that had the Convoy Council grant the Maximal that would later become Lio Convoy his Matrix. Free the Captured Matrix!

Great Convoy was later stationed at Maximal Army Central Headquarters, where he received reports of numerous incidents involving the Predacons across space. Great Convoy, presiding over the Convoy Council on Cybertron, interrupted Crow Convoy's angry threats to Big Convoy on the Nanatsunoko. Through a viewscreen, Great Convoy reprimanded Big Convoy for his recklessness destruction of the Predacon fortress planet heedless of what the shockwave would do to the Maximal Army 7th Fleet and demoted him to being an instructor for five rookies on Gaia. Great Convoy was a Commandron, the successor to the Maximals in the 34th century C.E. Notes

• The God of the Maximals as seen in "Chase the Mysterious Capsule" is a reuse of the main Great Convoy's character model.
• Due to long running Western misunderstanding, the Great Convoys of the Beast Wars Neo cartoon are conflated with both the Convoy Council that only exists in the Beast Wars manga and the Maximal Elders, the ruling body of the Maximals who went unseen in western fiction. This was a consequence of the original belief that Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo took place in the same time period that the characters of Beast Wars originated from.
